Was not with the Fabulous Thunderbirds. Not on the Vaughan Bros album (as fantastic as that album is). Not during his solo career.
Jimmie’s best solo came in 1993, as a guest on Junior Brown’s album Guit With It, specifically on the song “My Wife Thinks You're Dead.” Curiously, the didn’t release the version with Jimmie’s solo on the album cut. I’m not sure the whole story, but you had to buy the separate single to get the version of that song with Jimmie on the first solo. The album version had Junior playing guitar on the first solo (rather than Jimmie), and his lap steel on the second solo. Seems like, given the climate in 1993, highlighting Vaughan as a guest would have been a marketing bonus. Anyway, here it is, and I love it.
Jimmie’s solo is at the 1:00 mark. I love his shout at the end.
