    Howdy folks,

Looking for an auto wah type pedal to get some Jerry type tones.

Any way to get there on a budget?

He used a Moog Mu-Tron III for that Terrapin Station era quack (always partial to his Est. Prophet sound).

I used to own a Dunlop/MXR Bass Envelope Filter that I used (for guitar) to get that fairly accurately.

Envelope filters are what you're after ;)

You need a Leslie sim pedal ... Had a Danelectro Rocky Road that was cool and cheap at one time ...

Play that with a strat in the bridge/middle #2 position for maximum quackage

I'm not a Jerry aficionado (never really got into the Dead as good of musicians as they were), but I did get a Donner Dynamic Wah for about $22 delivered via eBay that I'm happy with.

For one, it's much smaller than my Dunlop Cry Baby :D. Secondly it has a wide range of sounds. I've used it for typically funky sounds but also as a cocked wah for leads. Third, I've had no issues with setting the sensitivity for Tele single coils, P90s or my acoustic guitar. It works fine with all three after an adjustment of that knob.

Whether it can do Jerry, I have no idea. I really want a Love Pedal Rubber Chicken but missed it on sale for $75 earlier this year. That's what led me to the little Donner.

The Mutron is not budget imo
I believe that’s what he used.

I’m thinking there are more budget auto wah’s than envelope filters?

    err what do I know

Jerry never used a Leslie (maybe in studio) but he did use a Mxr phase 100. Heavily modified by The Alembic crew no doubt.

Hard to say on a budget. You might look into one of the many Chinese Manufacturer’s that make those mini pedals. They may have one that will get you close. Maybe a used mini or micro q-tron. Or a used green digitech envelope filter. I can’t remember the model name.
I use an original big box EH Q-Tron but those aren’t budget friendly really.

The Mu-Tron III is what Jerry used. And it's expensive. As are clones if you can find one.

I use the Boss Auto-Wah. Which is not as good, but I don't use it enough to justify the expense of a better unit.

Yeah, a seventies Moog is probably $3k. I don't recall saying it was affordable ;)

I've never used a Boss Auto-Wah, but have heard good things.

Lovepedal Rubber Chicken. It comes up on the Flash sales every so often. I still use this pedal. Great for single coils and humbuckers. One on Reverb for $95

The Keeley Neutrino sounds great too. I had one of these and needed a comp/boost before it when using single coils.
There’s One on Reverb for $115

I will say that the Mad Professor Snow White Auto Wah is not one that will get you close. Not a horrible sound but won’t get you to jerry quack in my experience.

Yeah. The Q-Tron is the poor picker's Mutron.

Valeton (mini) copy of the Boss T-Wah.

Also the T-Rex Sense Wah, but it's no longer being made so sometimes people ask idiotic prices, although they were on sale really cheap at blowouts.

What's the budget? The HXFX has a MuTron and you can probably get a used on at a fair price. May even replace some other pedals.
