I have a habit of deep diving things and I'd like to avoid the rabbit hole.

My cousin is a HUGE dead fan and recently picked up guitar. She's having a ton of fun and it's been rewarding to watch her grow.

She has a looper a schecter and one of the variations of super champ (XD/X2/ETC?), so perfectly simple set up for an intermediate beginner.

As I mentioned she's a HHUUUUGGGEEE Garcia fan. Christmas I coming up and it dawned on me that she might get a huge kick out of a pedal.

    Arn't "mutrons" a Jerry thing?

What else is a "Jerry thing"

Idk WTH a mutron even is, AN I DON WANNA KNO! (it'll just send me down the same dang journey)

can anyone suggest a mutron or any other pedals for copping Garcia stuff?

    thanks!

A real-deal vintage Mutron III will set you back a lot $$$. Instead, a used Q-Tron+ will do the Jerry thing very well. I have one but it’s a big pedal and requires it’s own power supply.

If you want new there are a few options out there that are a smaller footprint vs the qtron but a little more coin. I’ve heard great things about this one but have not tried it.

    I should be more clear:

What reasonably priced widely available pedals cop some garcia tones for an intermediate player?

Not correct as an exact replica of Jerry’s gear but not bad and won’t break the bank.

Don’t know the modern equivalent but Jerry used an Alembic Stratoblaster for awhile

A Micro-Qtron is less than $100, and a lot of players use it for Jerry Garcia Dead tones.

Check out ( on the cheap).the DOD Envelope Filter ( auto wah)
I bought and just sold mine on CL as even though our band plays a fair amount of Dead - I like to keep a minimal pedalboard ( just 4 ) and just did not really feel like hooking a pedal up for maybe just 2 songs

( note: our band incorporates GD music into a mix of Blues, R&R, Country so Dead jams are maybe a bit economical)

    * but I learned one thing with this pedal ( having never used one before)
when ON , is almost dormant/muted, unless you pick it hard, then ( like a wah ) it sweeps from low to high frequency but without the 'treadle of the pedal'

So you do not want to turn it ON until you are ready to take a break
$45 is what I paid new ( on sale)
