I've desided to go for a Jensen C12N (reissue of course) speaker when i'm building my 1x12 speakercabinet, any lovers/haters out there?

Love/hate

I have 2 Jensen C12N RI speakers in my Bandmaster cab. I think they sound OK with that amp. I had one in my DR and didn't like it. Of course, if you're talking about a real, vintage Jensen, then that would change everything.

Hate is a strong word for me. I won't put them in my amps. YMMV

A lot of people with a lot of different opinions. Most on either end of the spectrum with few in betweeners :)

I actually like the reissue C12N speakers in some amps.

A lot of my customers with C12Ns wind up replacing them with Texas Heats. Less piercing in the highs, slightly better bass.

Yasssir, Mr. Bill. If the Reissue JEnsens were in a really dark amp, I might like them a bit more....but then, the EMinence Legend ceramic C12N-type would be my choice there, too....or a WEber clone.

What amp/amps are going to be using this ?open or closed back? cab?
What sonics are you looking for?
So many variables, eh? That wEber is a great speaker. IF I were going to use that cab with various amps, I might opt for a speaker that didn't do much coloration. That would mean an EV for me...or the WEber clone which is the Michigan....in a ceramic amgnet form with a non-metallic dust cover. That is my personal thought..

c12n

I have used the C12N in my 5E3 with excellent results as it seems to provide the perfect balance to my ears/needs for warmth, clean and volume.
It balances out the 5E3 giving it more clean headroom making it more versatile than something more vintage like alnicos.

Ri? or Vintage....I wouls expect results in that vein with either, but the vintage Jensen would be my preference.....or EMi or WEber clones.

It will probably be an open-back cabinet, i want it to work with my little champ 600 when I'm home and then something like a thd univalve or a Blues JR when gigging

I've heard a few amps that sounded very good with them. Still, I'd go Weber or Eminence. Equivalent choices from them sound better to me.

I have them in a 1965 small-box Bandmaster cabinet and they sound excellent in that application. I know there are probably better choices out there, but I don't have the time or the money to experiment--I bought the Jensens from a local store before really digging into the online world (and this forum!).

I have not compared the Jensen C12N reissue to the Weber, but I can't say enough good things about the Weber signiture. A great speaker at a great price. I put in a Weber Signiture with a ceramic magnet, which is more or less along the lines of a Jensen C12N, to replace a Fender labeled/eminence made P12R clone in my 5E3. Much more clean headroom, louder, crisper and more defined, but not harsh and not flabby when pushed.

This is actually what sold me on C12N's.

I built a 5E3 clone and got a great deal on a C12N, so I figured "why not?"

In this amp, I really like the C12N... in other amps it's a bit stiff, harsh, and brittle. That's why I say "in some amps" because it can be a fantastic speaker, depending on the use.

I had one in my old narrow panel tweed deluxe and "stiff, harsh and brittle" is a good description.
Not being a big tinkerer, I was unprepared for how much difference a speaker could make.
I got it out of there fast and got a Weber (12A125...I think) in there fast.
Tasteee.
I'm starting to think that out of all the stuff we tinker with here, to my ears, speakers make the biggest difference

Put one in a DRRI. Replaced it with a Emi Red White and Blues. Much better. Replaced that with a Weber Sig 12B. MUCH better.
