There are many tasteless examples of whammy bar use (see 80's hair bands). I disagree with your generalization, although I get that your comment was tongue in cheek...I think!

I don't mind a little bit of whammy as an effect on a slow chord swell or a sprinkling of it now and then. It's the overuse of it that makes me feel seasick and overwhelmed by all the motion of it.

I have hidden my stats whammy bar. If I cant get the whammy effect with my fretting hand its too much whammy anyway.

Well sort of tongue in cheek, but it's hard to argue that the whole world wouldn't have been better off to have missed the "tasteful" use of the whammy bar, if we could only have missed all the rest!:D

Yea, and in a pinch, you can always do like Tommy Emmanuel, and just try and pull the neck off the guitar!

Although i'm not big on the whammy action i'm a fan of Jeff himself. He seems like the nicest and most down to earth out of the group of players he's associated with.

I seen him open for Santana in the early 90s. He just leaves my mouth gaping when he is on stage. He just comes to play. One of a kind.

I like Jeff Beck, and I know full well, you can't separate the man from the whammy. Some things are just the way they are. Still.....

My bar stays in the case. I disapprove of using the bar for what your left hand should be doing and also that 80's "How-did-i-look-while-i was-playing" type bands crap, but Hendrix and Beck use it very musically rather then the afore mentioned Spandexed, Lip Sticked, Poofy Hairs.

The Bigsby is a device made for rendering anything it's attached to being perpetually out of tune. Of course that's just my opnionionionionionionion! :D

I had a Tele with a Bigsby on it one time for not very long. It's my considered opinion that if Leo had introduced the Tele with a Bigsby right from the start, it would have sold 9 units, James Burton, and Brad Paisley would never have become famous. The TDPRI would be known as the PRS forever forum, and I would have one corner of my room freed up.

Tune any vibrato using “The Frudua Way” (see YouTube video) and your tuning will be stable.

How people with telecasters get a Bigsby to work on the old plank is beyond me.

But on arch tops on the other hand? I like em fine there.
