I didn't get any replies in the bass forum so...

Currently in the planning stages. The guy I'm building it for would like to combine some elements of these two guitars (pics below) that he has had and enjoyed for a while.

I've built multiple guitars, but this is my first bass build.

He likes the Warmoth Jazzmaster IV Bass body.

Here are my thoughts:

Where can I find a trapeze like tailpiece... Might Rickenbacker style work...Any examples of this?

I had the idea to use a lipstick style J-bass bridge pickup. And a P-bass pickup housed in one cover like a WRHB. This would be a nod to the Charvel Surfcaster (and to a Jazzmaster because the forward pickup would be more rectangle). Like this.

Anyone know of a P-bass pickup like this:

The WRHB pickup you are looking for is was used on the 2nd issue of the Telecaster bass that came out in the early seventies. I think it was called the custom or special. The first issue of the Telecaster bass was a basically a reissue of the original 1951 Precision bass.

Oh.. never mind....
I’m intrigued!

Thanks. I may end up going with a WRHB. I was originally looking for a P bass style pickup (where each string has two rod magnets, like he currently plays) in a WRHB style housing. But my client says he's looking for a "one off" tone, so now I'm thinking the WRHB might be the way to go now.

Thanks. I like that short one. Here are a couple others I'll probably be looking into:

Another option for "one-off" tone. I have the P-Bass version of this pickup design, it's very loud and also very even up and down the neck.

And I just realized that the offset body with the angled bottom may make the trapeze a challenge where it bends over the front of the body.

I was looking at how the Charvel tailpiece bends at an angle.

Can't stand the one on the right myself but not my bass.
The way to handle the angled tail is inset the tailpiece square on, you could even do a Ricky type carve to place it in there 😃

Inset it like this?

I'm kind of joking... but by "inset" do you mean cut it into the body?

And... ooh, what's a Ricky carve?

Well kinda sorta, but maybe more like this, a Ricky (the only decent 12 they ever made,a prototype of course)
Kinda tough to see with that beautiful body

Is the body bottom angled on that? By "angled," I mean the lowest point not in the center when hanging on the wall.
