I've been using Dunlop Jazz III's for years. GC was was out of stock the other day only had the Eric Johnson Jazz III's. They were only 20 cents more, so I went ahead and bought them. I have to say these are cool. They feel more rough, not as slippery. Easier to hold on to. Pleasantly surprised.

Just thought I'd pass it on....

I'm a fairly recent convert to the EJ Jazz IIIs.
In the last few years, I have changed picks 3 times.
The EJs are light and very easy to manipulate for
various picking angles.
Me gusta!

I normally use Planet Waves Black Ice picks, but I decided to try the EJ Jazz III. The EJ's are ok, but I prefer the Black Ice picks.

I read an article online, and we all know what that means...it has to be true. ;-)

Anyway, Dunlop said they asked EJ for one of his used picks and did a 3D scan of it. Voila! EJ jazz 3!

I used red Jazz IIIs for years, and on a whim bought a packet of Ultex Jazz IIIs. I was an instant convert. They have a much snappier attack to them.

I used jazz II back in the day, been using the EJ IIIs untill I tried the ultex ones.
I also made my own cutting down a full size pick with the grip texture, I liked it too.

Thanks for the heads up on the Ultex. As a creature of habit, I'd never even heard of them.I will give them a try.

One of my guitar teachers used to score his picks with an exacto knife to create more grip. I tried it out. It does help but it's kind of a hassle....and I almost cut my finger:(

I've been using the Cool Jazz picks. It has a bit of sandpaper to help with gripping. So far it's worked pretty well although on long runs it'll start to turn and I noticed on the first one I bought, the sandpaper type finish has worn down.

Maybe a straighter pick attack will keep it from spinning :)

The red Jazz III and the black Jazz III have been different in the past. The black one is rougher, maybe that's what they are labelling the EJ Jazz III now?

Red Jazz III is my go-to pick for mandolin.
