Well..Body wood is not the same is it? Plus the Fender Name brings slightly better resale..Id love a Squire Vintage Modified Fretless Jazz! What a deal!

on the surface maybe. Under the paint - no. Ttoo much green wood in that end of the market for me to want mess with. The deal in a fretted J these days ? A user Tribute JB-2 from G&L. A much better instrument than you would expect for the relative cost. I snagged one used at $235 out the door in a G&L gig a while back. Lotta bass for realtively short dough.

Big difference in tone, playability and quality. The Squier may suit your needs but don't kid yourself, it's definitely not the same bass at a lower price.
