If you have both pups on, is it hum cancelling?

Just curious. At first I didn't like the sound of both on. Now I do.... LOL.

Yes. Inverse is also true: only one pickup on is not hum cancelling. Both on is the famous scooped tone!

Yes just confirming: i the traditional wiring, both pickups on is humbucking and also results in a characteristic mid-scooped tone

Yep. Hum canceling if both are on.
My own sweet spot is around 60% neck and 40% bridge and there is no audible hum. I wire VBT instead of VVT for my convenience. No single right way but I like blend more than an extra volume.

I'll have to try the 60/40 solder wire mix and see how it sounds. Sounds like a good way to go.

Bonus on the hum canceling. woohooo!!! Thanks guys. So is that wired in series or parallel? I don't remember. I know is the same with 2 and 4 position with strats but I haven't made a mental note of solidifying which is which.

Standard wiring is parallel. That's what makes it scooped.

    Joining the chorus, yup.
I did put noiseless Kinmans in my J style PRS SE Kestrel bass.
    No hum, no matter what.
