He didn't raise a whole lotta fuss

Sex Machine is the most dangerous song a soul band can play.

It starts with a break, has the same break in the middle, but shorter, and ends with the same break that's even shorter. There almost isn't a melody. Every beat, every note, every instrument, every voice is rhythm. If a note is too long or a beat out of place, the world will know it because the song needs to be played with absolute precison.

You just know that James drilled the band on this song until they were ready to beat him.

There’s a great documentary on Netflix about James Brown. One of the guys said "that’s a vamp you can’t make a song out of that.!” Another said “I don’t really care for these songs but they crowd likes them and the band plays them well..”
