IMHO - I think the 60's Laquer may be the better option. Better pickups at the very least and fewer issues with parts replacement if that is a concern.

Yeah - once you get the set up right - everything just "fits" a bit better and plays a lot better. Just keep in mind that it may take a few rounds to get it where you want it.

Whichever route you go - put the mustang bridge on and set your string height as prefferred and give it a go for a while. That will tell you what to tell the tech. It may not need much.
I've ruled out the vintura for sure. The choice is wait on a jg66 or grab 60s lacquer now.

I appreciate the advice on the bridge and giving it a go, I hadn't planned it that way, but it makes too much sense to not do.

Thanks for starting this thread. I too am interested in Jaguars.

A question, do normal generic gig bags fit a Jaguar, or not?
Yes.
I wish they'd make specific slightly shorter high end 2 guitar gig bags for jags, Mustangs, etc, but they fit.

My 24"scale tele has like 7" of unused gig bag I can fold down.

Jags are something I've long been fascinated with. Hopefully I'll get one soon...

If you go with the Mustang bridge, be sure that you match the radius of the fingerboard. And there is an add-on called the Buzz Stop that will let you install 10-48 with no problems.

I -personally- will rarely say not to use a specifc piece of hardware because its generally a case of player preference.

The buzzstop is a solution to a problem that can be fixed a number of ways and is not a requirement for light gauge strings or a mustang bridge.

Has anyone formed opinions on the 2008-2016ish classic player jags with the regular ss wiring but the trem closer to the bridge and an adjustomatic looking bridge?

Mine fits in the same gig bags my teles fit in. It’s a short scale. It’s not going to be like having a bass in a guitar gig bag with a few inches of the headstock sticking out.

It’s the only fender offset I’ve spent real amounts of time with. I’ve had one for … maybe 12-13 years? It’s one of my two favorite guitars.

I don’t have enough experience with other jags or jazzmasters to have an informed opinion on the trem plate placement or how the tradition bridge/mustang/stay trem/mastery bridges work, but the Gibson style bridge hasn’t given me any issues, and the tuning stability is better than my hard tail tele. The only downside is the limited color availability, and i don’t love the clean sound of the pickups, but i can’t tell if that’s a pickup quality issue or just how jags sound clean. It sounded great with a lot of reverb when i was in a surf band, and it sounds great going through my pedal board for my death rock band.

I can’t stand that dad rock fender red, and I’m lukewarm on sunburst, so i got the sunburst. I really wanted surf or seafoam green, and i was kind of annoyed when the squires came out in those colors a few years later.

I haven't been a sunburst fan since I was like 13, but the one I'm looking at looks better than the 'burst on the other jags (so jg66, vintura, player series, and Cobain signature. I'm a Nirvana fan, but that burst looks yellow...)
Bootstrap makes jag pickups, so that wasn't worry (but it was a potential selling point to the 60s lacquer model).
But are the pickups just too vanilla for your liking?

I haven’t spent enough time with other jags to know if that’s just how they sound as guitars or if fender’s stock pickups are kinda lackluster.

I do really like how it sounds through my pedalboard so I’m hesitant to mess with it.

I don't know where or why the Jag bug bit me, but it recently did. Casually shopping for something cheap I happened across a "defective" CV. Their description gave me the belief that they didnt know how to set up the bridge, etc. I gambled $200 on it & I was right. It was brand new in the box. Strings on the frets because the bridge hadn't been raised.

I love that trem system, jag pickups are great, the dual wiring scheme is cool as hell, great neck and looks the business.

Did someone mention blue w matching headstock?

I just got my first Jag a couple months ago. Squier CV 60s. It’s fantastic!
Isnt turquoise blue?!?

No. It's blue that green sneezed in. Not to be confused with teal, which is green that blue vomited in.

I ruled out the Vintura completely.

To be honest, based solely upon the limited information I could get, and asking the 1 tdpri member I remembered buying one, I'm pretty sure that dumping upgrades into a CV or HS player model yields a better result fir substantially less than $1200. Remember, the CV is south of $500, and HS Players go for $550ish occasionally, so you could easily replace everything but wood and paint ($180 wiring $150 pickups, $200 metal parts) with the more expensive options and come out ahead. There's still a pink CV in the local shop that previously had the Vintura. It probably would've come home with me if I didn't know my children would try stealing it for themselves.

So, I didn't get blue. Only way I'll ever buy another blue guitar would be the 60th anniversary jag for 1/3 the going price. Or maybe the Mascis tele for cheap.

A guy in Canada sent me an offer a bit too good to pass up. I'm sure I'll regret not talking another seller into going lower, but I'll post the ngd thread next week.

But let's talk about that finish.

Who the heck was selling those! And how'd I miss it?

Chicago Music Exchange. Looks like they have more in stock.
