He died of a respiratory ailment yesterday.

Oh no! I grew up watching him on TV.
I was privileged to be given a letter of introduction to him by the planetarium director for Richmond City Schools when I visited Miami, and quite pleased to meet Dr. Horkheimer in person. He showed me around his facility, let me have a look at their new projectors, and explained the hyperboloid form of the building's roof. A great guy who rarely got the respect he deserved.

This is sad news, I loved watching Stargazer. I even loaded Isao Tomita's version of Dubussy's "Arabesque #1" on my iPod so I could listen to it on the subway to and from work. That music, along with the cheesy special effects and his boundless enthusiasm always brought a smile to my face. RIP Jack.

I don't know the gent, but to this day I still miss Carl Sagan. Perhaps they're both comparing notes now.
Sad news. I have fond memories of his slightly cheesy yet always entertaining and informative segments. In fact, when I'm pointing out stars to someone in the night sky, I will often do it with a bad impression of his distinctive voice. Boy, do you get weird looks from people who've never heard of him...

I'll bet you introduced astronomy to many, many folks. Some of whom made the study a hobby or even a passion.

Claude Debussy wrote the music, which Tomita performed using a synth arrangement.
Yeah, Jack (at least his TV persona) was pretty corny and Adderall-y, but I enjoyed him, also. And I certainly appreciated him sharing his knowledge of astronomy with us.
