I have a piece of gaffers tape covering the camera on my laptops.

There's a photo out there of Mark Zuckerberg at his desk and HE has the camera and the microphones covered.

And, he was asked point blank “do you cover the camera on your computer? “And he said yes, he does.

Not that that dude is ever going to be doing anything even mildly interesting except for checking bank balances but… There you go.

That question came up from my anti-virus provider. I did the check they had and sure nuff- they got into my webcam. I usually have my puter facing up so it's pointed to the ceiling. I stuck my hand if front of the cam and there it was.

Someone may be watching you....
On my laptop, they'll see the backside of some electrical tape...boring. Who knows what the mic will pick up at work...probably the sound of me gently tapping on my keyboard in the rare instances that I'm not trapped in a conference room for one of the never ending meetings. At home? The view will be marginally more exciting. They'll see the blinds in my office and, hopefully, the occasional view of me and something they can't ever "unsee". :)

Yet another reason to use a desktop system
They can watch you pleasuring yourself at a desk, too.

I wipe my cookies up to 3-4 daily after i have done any online research, and i have a cover on my camera, my lap tops are turned off untill I need them[/QUOTE]

Why not just use incognito mode then, and store nothing, ever?

They are using facial recognition and voice recognition now. I opt out of voice recognition on accounts but that is easily obtainable regardless of opting out. Your mic can be used to obtain voice recognition and your ip address can be linked to identify you. As for face recognition I got corralled and forced into it at the airport upon returning to my country a few years back. If not for that they could just get it from a webcam and link your id via ip address again. I think that 5g can be used to id you wherever there is coverage as it was apparently developed for the military.

Apparently it's for our safety. I think it's just easier to pull off than tattooing a barcode and installing a tracking chip on everyone. Creepy stuff.
Just like trying to live your life free from being a tax and interest cash cow or wasting the majority of your time working for the system there really is no escape from it all.

I can't respond in full because your comment treads uncomfortably close to political discussion. Suffice to say I disagree with your assertions.

The fact that contemplating or considering an alternative system is forbidden says it all.

Its unlikely any political party would ever discuss changing the system. I've never heard anyone even mention the possibility of human survival without it.

Ah. I assumed nearly every desktop system made in this decade had a built in camera. But I'm on a Mac.

I've used the camera on mine.... never. (To my knowledge ).

Right, your online computer. Perfect place to use incognito mode when browsing. Nothing is stored. Nothing to track, or whatever, and nothing to clear.

I'm sure other browsers offer it, but Chrome File->New Incognito Window...

It is doubtful that one's mobile platform has granted the same third party personal computer software the same rights. If one is getting their mobile software with appropriate hygiene and common sense they should be seeing the dialog and settings to grant access for microphone and camera. ...but over and over I hear wrong interpretations of how this stuff works along with see a lot of people ignore settings and terms of use they should pay attention to.

You have assume the possibility of malevolent software on the mobile device can acquire root access. Anything, including the phone's mic would then be directly accessible.

Security is a huge deal in the corporate and government world because the software and technology advances so quickly and scammers and hackers adapt with it. IT guys are a cautious bunch because they know what is possible. The comment about Zuckerburg having tape over his laptop camera and mics is a case in point.
