In college football, Gus Johnson and Joel Klatt are awful. Johnson is so hyperbolic. Everyone is an All American and the best (insert a position) in the nation. Klatt is insufferable.

For ESPN, Joe Tessatore is incredibly annoying.

On CBS, I’m so glad I don’t have to listen to Gary Danielson anymore. The Big1G can have him. Brad Nessler used to be good but he became just as biased as Gary. It’s a shame in a way, because Danielson is good at the analysis.

Kudos to @stxrus for mentioning Vern Lundquist. He was (is?) very good. I also liked Keith Jackson, particularly for college football. For baseball, I felt Joe Morgan was just about the best color analyst I can remember. For baseball play-by-play, not too much there. It was hard to dislike Vin Scully but I thought he stayed too long at the fair, just like Bob Costas. I liked Costas when he first came up, but like all long-timers he has worn out his welcome.

Costas has certainly lost his fastball. His broadcast partner, Ron Darling, sounds like he is narrating a funeral. Not a good pairing.

Lots of opinions here ... some of which I agree with, others not so much.
I agree both Michaels and Costas are beyond their peak. I can still listen to Al - I think he's a total pro - but I think the whole Amazon Prime production is super cheesy. I like Herbstreit a lot but think he's out of place in an NFL booth. He's a college guy and should stay there with Chris Fowler (who I think it still decent).
I've always liked Joe Buck but now have grown tired of him. Same with Troy Aikman. If I never hear them announce another game, I wouldn't miss them. I always felt Joe was better at baseball than football anyway.
I can still enjoy and appreciate the Jim Nantz/Tony Romo pair. I like Kevin Burkhart for Fox and really like Greg Olsen. Dumping him for Tom Brady was a mistake, even if Brady proves to be good in the long run. There was an air of unfairness to the whole thing that didn't make Fox Sports look good.
My least favorite announcer in all of sports is Sean McDonough. Can't stand his drone.
One young announcer I like a lot is Noah Eagle, son of Ian Eagle.

Where do you listen to NASCAR? I mean what station or platform?
I record it when it's on NBC; then I get to hear Jeff ! I don't listen to any streaming; kinda need to watch the races, that way you can see who's on the ha sod and getting sod bot ! For announcers; there'll never be another Ned Jarret - the best ever !

Man I hate to say it but after the last couple of weeks I feel the need to call for some new blood in the sports announcer booths.

The first who needs to go: Al Michaels - Amazon Thursday Night Football - I have watched a few of the Thursday night games and Michaels seems a step slow and his game calls are not that great anymore.
I think Herbstreit probably has to keep himself in check when Al tends to go off script and starts rambling.

Second who needs to go: Bob Costas - Baseball ALCS - I love Bob for all he has done in sports, but his ramblings are getting old. When you are broadcasting a regular season blowout I understand waxing poetic and telling stories about days gone by to keep the viewers interested. But when you are calling championship games where every pitch and at bat is a story in of itself, let the game orchestrate itself. It does not need any additional flavor added by the announcers.

First off - Al Michaels will forever go down in history as one of the greatest announcers of all time, there is not a greater call than, "do you believe in miracles? Yes!". That of course was in 1980, over 40 years ago. Al, it is time to hang it up.

Second off - Bob IS the voice of sports that I grew up on. He did it all and he is did it as good as anyone else. His boyish tenor backed the NBA, the NFL, MLB and the Olympics for my entire lifetime. His "Mickey Mantle was baseball" line is one of the best ever. But Bob's ramblings over the tension of the ALCS were not called for and kind of ruined the moment in my opinion.

Thoughts?
Thoughts? No announcers bother me during Guards games, because I’m listening to Tom Hamilton call those. 😉

Stopped watching football in 2018. Don’t miss it.

I’m sorry to hear Costas isn’t up to snuff. That’s too bad. But I’m guessing I’d still rather listen to him for a thousand more years than to thirty seconds of that Joe Buck dude.

I generally find that if I turn my guitar up loud enough, the announcers don't bother me. But I will say that Gary, Keith & Ron in the Mets booth run a high-quality operation.

Local sportscasters are a lot easier for me to take, than the national network ones. The local guys don't feel they have to over-dramatize everything or scream the obvious at the top of their lungs. They just tell it like it is. Tom McCarthy, John Kruk and Ruben Amaro in Philly; Duane Kuiper, Mike Krukow and Jon Miller in S.F.; those guys are very, very listenable, and a lot of fun.

I have to agree with @Lockback that Fox Sports really bumbled dumping Greg Olson in favor of Tom Brady. I listened to some of Kevin Burkhardt and Brady yesterday, and it was good. But Olsen is equally good in his role and deserved better treatment.

A good CBS team is Kevin Harlan and Trent Green. Harlan can be a little over the top at times, but he definitely brings that "big game feel". And Green knows his stuff and doesn't overtalk.

I don't know if Al Michaels is over the hill, or if he's just phoning it in at this point. Herbstreit is not a good fit for NFL games.

I'm not loving Rich Eisen and Kurt Warner calling the London games.

Agree all the way around. I do like Harlan ... I forgot to mention him.

When living around the Portland Oregon area. We used to watch the Blazers.

We'd turn down the TV cast and turn on the radio broadcast with announcer Bill Schonelly.

He would make it sound like you were there. He would broadcast the action not endless drivel of statistics.

We need more Bill's and John Madden's.

Good old Bill. "Bingo Bango Bongo" "Rip City"!!
