Friend of Leo's
Welp, I'm making progress on a Band-Master I picked up a few months back (after a good 8 hours of work & learning with my tech/builder friend Sunday afternoon/evening).
There's a blonde/oxblood cab being built hopefully to arrive by end of June or early July so I went with a 1x12" mainly due the immense amount of available options.
Now, I'm running the amp through my Pro Reverb with a pair of Utahs. The amp stays very clean and warm with a bit of breakup when cranked but I'm looking to add a little mo' grit. What about that whole "speaker distortion" debacle, I don't like it 90% of the time but I'll be damned if some inefficient speakers aren't warm as heck when distorted but they're hard to come by imo (seems to get better with age?). There's also a variety of options I've read about, for instance running in the vibrato channel without a tube in V1, hmmm.
Oh, it's an 8ohm 40 watt (stated) amp (though not quite as loud as the Pro Reverb through the same cab)
Hemp Caps?? Heavy Doping?? Vintage/Modern?? Maybe soak it in the blood of my enemies for a few days???
TL;DR
I like warmer overdrive and think the perfect speaker for this amp would help me get there and I say that as a fella who usually prefers more efficient modern designs. This might be the time when a less efficient speaker does the trick, but it's got to be warm.
