It’s the guitar event of the year. Who knew?

Joe Bonamassa has decided to follow the lead of Bob Dylan, and Bruce Springsteen, and give all of his money to charity. He says that people don't like him, because he's wealthy, he's hoping that wearing ragged jeans, and performing free like Bob, and Bruce (his guitar heroes) that people will at last like him. He just wishes he could sing and play like Bob. Joe is considering while he still has the money having another set of adenoids installed in hopes of sounding more like Bob. He also intends to make his domicile in an abandoned boxcar down by the railroad tracks, not far from where Bruce lives.

For whatever reason, people love to throw shade at Joe B. I don't, because he's doing exactly what he loves and he's making money doing it.

He's also a pretty good Guitar Stuff Ambassador, bringing civilians into the Guitar Army, of which we are all members. Even if you don't like his music or his personality (yeah, he's quirky) ya gotta like the guy for spreading the Good Word. Guitar playing is fun, and he helps prove that every day.

I'm no Joe B fanboi; I own none of his stuff. Same goes for John Mayer. But I'm not going to act like a third grader and throw dog poo on the guy just because it's the thing to do. I'm just not into mob mentality. I prefer to think for myself.

Kind of like how it is always "Ford Truck Month" in ads on local TV. I saw Joe B when he was maybe 17 or 18 at a blues festival in Oklahoma and it was okay, but just not my thing. I think his playing has evolved a lot since then. It's nice to see someone who is good getting paid and making it happen, though.
It's not just Ford any more - all the truck manufacturers have "Truck Month."
After watching all the TV spots, I have a saying:
IT'S ALWAYS TRUCK MONTH SOMEWHERE.

So… you’re saying tone is in the marketing? 🤣
He's in good company.
BB before he passed had a signature guitar and strings and recorded tracks with anyone and everyone who asked.
EC same same.
They, of course are monumental original talents, not just gear-happy copycats.

And even if he moved into a van down by the river, he'd still be a millionaire musician.
But I never gave that a thought - being wealthy used to be a GOOD thing ...

I have no problem with anyone being wealthy, so long as they aren’t crapping on others, or cheating or stealing to get there.

I don’t actually dislike Joe at all. I’ve never met him or even listened to an interview, so I honestly couldn’t tell you what I think of him. He buys guitars from my favorite local shop when he’s in town, and the owner says he’s a real nice guy who never haggles and just pays what’s asked if he wants something.

I just happen to find his guitar playing and his music in general to be tedious and derivative. It struck me as funny that he’s being billed as the “guitar event of the year”.

Yeah, I have no ill will to Joe. He’s made it and he is good at what he does. I would never buy a guitar with his name on it nor anyone’s name. I don’t believe buying an endorsed instrument makes you a better player anyway. Especially me! He certainly keeps guitar in the limelight and that is a good thing. We may be a dying breed.

He’s a very good guitar player. Has a good voice. Is a good showman.

I appreciate him for bringing the New Hartford blues down south. If it wasn’t for Joe B most people here wouldn’t know about the blues. There’s a saying, Utica-Oriskany chitlin circuit cuts your teeth or it cuts you up. Those original traveling blues men are no joke.
