Better get your tickets asap @Jakedog. Being that it is THE guitar event of the year and all.

This has me thinking maybe we guitar players need to do better. Surely, this has to be hyperbole. Ha!

Maybe Joe will play Tommy Bolin's Les Paul? I would like to see that since Tommy only played his Strat on April 30, 1976 when I saw him at the Roxy in Hollywood, Ca.

They mean when the guitar truck rolls up. Can I get a ticket just to watch load in?
You got that right!

OK. I have to admit his first few albums set me back on my heels. He was the first blues player I'd ever heard incorporate lighting speed technique into playing the blues and still sound like he was playing the blues. That includes being compared to Jimi and SRV. That said ........ I've never seen any other guitarist sell out to the business / money side the way Joe did. Guitars, Amps, strings, etc. ..... Joe was like ... sure ..... add my name ..... give me this much of a cut. I haven't even listened to any of his work in the last 15 years. When a guitarist becomes money, money, money over everything else I ditch them. Art,, dreams, beauty, getting an important message across, taking the listener to special places ............. Wonderful. A Capitalist using my instrument in an attempt to earn as much as they possibly can ............ pure dirt!

Yeah.

I'm not a big fan.

I will give him the benefit that he has garnered some interest in the guitar, again.

He's not terrible... and, I believe that he could "clean-up" his playing and become the type of guitarist that he's capable of becoming.

I think it's his "over the top" direction that bothers most of us.

That, and the fact that he mostly re-hashes a lot of stuff we've heard many times before (Clapton).

Personally, I think he needs to listen to Wes, Kenny Burrell, Lenny Breau, Grant Greene etc., gain some taste and mature a lil bit.

I believe that he could start a new direction and pick up a new, appreciative fan base.

He doesn't have to ditch the Blues thing, just expand his abilities.

(And, SLOW DOWN!)

imo.

I don't know enough about his business to have a problem with it, so I guess I'm the opposite. I just don't enjoy his playing. I'm not really a blues-rock fan. No hate for him or anyone who likes it, it just doesn't move me.

Kind of like how it is always "Ford Truck Month" in ads on local TV. I saw Joe B when he was maybe 17 or 18 at a blues festival in Oklahoma and it was okay, but just not my thing. I think his playing has evolved a lot since then. It's nice to see someone who is good getting paid and making it happen, though.
