It’s a bee hive “brood” box that has been slightly modified. This is the way I will build every 1x12 cab I ever build in the future! The Celestion was a freebie from CL that had a blown VC. I bought a replacement cone kit and put it in.

    The whole thing sounds great!!!!

I appreciate it a lot. Several years ago I built a cab and learned just how difficult doing those box joints really is.

Thank you! I skipped the joint problem altogether by buying a "precut" beehive kit on ebay for $30. Lol. I have the joint jig and a router. I just haven't wasted enough wood to know how to cut them myself.

Thanks for that!! It's "tweed" tolex. I'm told that it's a LOT harder to work with than actual tweed fabric. This product looks GREAT!

I built a mickey mouse jig for my router table and got the job done but it made me appreciate a true wood worker who just goes out in his shop and makes boxes. And I also know how hard it is to get the seams straight on your grill cloth, yours looks really good.

I'll add that back in about 1970 while I was just getting out of college I made some walnut speaker cabinets that I still use today. They are bit beat up but still pump out the sound

I definitely appreciate the guys that build cabs for a living. It certainly isn't as easy as some of them make it look.

Check out "Uncle Doug" on YouTube. I watch/study his videos when I have a project that I've never done before. He's brilliant!

If you decide you want to make those in multiples, a five pack of knocked down 10" deep boxes from Mann Lake are pretty economical. While Professor Dr SWMBO uses medium boxes for her hives, I cannot buy the material for the same or less than just buying the pre-cut, knocked down boxes from them. And I get contractor/professional pricing on materials. Even better when they are on sale or qualify for free shipping...

I have this one. To be honest, I haven’t spent a lot of time with it. I have the boards cut to do a 1x8 cab for the little Celestion that’s currently in that Blackstar combo in the pics.
I found these bee boxes (and much prefer 12” speakers) and decided to go this route, this time.
