Need help on deciding if a trade is worth it!

I have a 2012 Martin 000c16gte, and someone wants to trade me a 2011 American 60th anniversary 3 tone sunburst tele with a maple neck. Posting both guitars below. Both are in excellent condition.

    Actual tele: https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/753387195043289/

Just trying to figure out if this is an equal trade or if extra money should be thrown in somewhere. Thanks!!

This is just me saying this, but I would keep the Martin. A Tele can be had for any price, at any production level, or time. A Martin will be with you forever. But, then if you have doubts asking here, then I think you know the answer.

    Ditto, I’d keep the Martin.

The Tele is an American Standard not the special anniversary model in the Guitar Player link. All of them were fitted with the commemorative neck plate in 2011.
    Keep the Martin.

I love my tele and visit this tele site daily, and want another one. But I just can't fathom spending that much doe on a tele. I love pasta but am not going to spend $25 on a plate of spaghetti. I can more easily justify spending the doe on a Martin. The guy down the block makes teles. He can't make an acoustic, to say nothing of a Martin. Is it a short-sighted oversimplification on my part? Probably--most things in my life are. It's the only way I can keep going. Good luck

If you're happy with the Martin keep it. It will only get better in time. I have a Martin D16 and it's a wonderful guitar. As pointed out above the American Std Teles aren't hard to come by and I don't think there was anything real special or unique about the 60th Anniversary version.

Yes, IMO the Martin is greater in the trade - keep it.

The Martin is a higher value guitar. I'd buy the exact tele I want rather than trade down to a random one.

not to ruffle feathers, but this guitar is worth what they are asking... but it's NOT the same guitar the OP is looking to get in a trade.. just look at the headstock logo.. plus many other items as well. Black vs sunburst also makes a difference... just not in the same league IMHO

The Martin is worth about $200 more than the Tele - which is an American Standard (as others have said it's not a special anniversary model, all USA and MIM Teles except the AVRIs got that "60th Anniversary" neck plate). If you really like the Tele and the Tele's owner is willing to kick in some cash ($100-$200) then it's worth doing the trade.

    Other questions:
Do you have another acoustic guitar and just want a nice electric?
What kind of amp do you have or plan to use?
Do you want a modern or more vintage tele sound?
I may have missed it but the bridge saddles on that model are weird. Neither American Standard nor vintage saddles but look like Strat saddles.

    ---

Ok, my two cents without knowing more....you can get an amazing tele for less than this one costs and probably grab a nice amp to go with it.

Or could get a really cool vintage tele like this one for about the same price: https://reverb.com/item/18478001-20...h3hHQj9EAQYAyABEgKvwvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds&pla=1 [IMG]

    ---

    More options:

If you don't have another acoustic, get one of these: https://reverb.com/item/10787036-alvarez-ad60-artist-series-acoustic-guitar [IMG]

and here is a tele to look at too: https://reverb.com/item/18209106-fender-classic-series-50s-telecaster-2018-2-tone-sunburst-w-gig-bag

and you have two for the price of one!

    Yay!

I'm not gonna do a bunch of research. It's your decision, who am I to say what's best for you. but I can't fathom spending more than maybe a grand on a used Fender tele, especially one you haven't even played. It's a soft market out there, and there are a million used teles for sale. Last time I was at my favorite music store they had a couple of real nice G&Ls (USA ones) T-types for $700 each, used in good condition. I'm not sure what you could put on a tele that would make it worth too much more than that.

Thanks everyone! I went with all of your advice and kept the Martin. At this point I'm only looking for cash so I can buy what I really want.

Not without going a thorough inspection of the tele (complete tear down, telecasters are too easy to fake and I trust no one).
