Don't forget that "Casablanca" was made in 1942, right in the heart of World War 2. So the scene where the German Army is drowned out by patrons singing the French Anthem was tremendously impactful on the big screen to viewers. Watching that movie today without understanding the context of when it was released robs it of just how powerful that movie was.
Just a great movie.
Agreed. Great movie, great book ..Those would certainly be included on my list. Citizen Kane would probably be about the top. To Kill A Mockingbird would be another.
I don’t know if it’s THE BEST, but it’s one of my very favorites too.-or just my favourite?

Feel free to disagree.....but, if you haven't seen this one, watch it.![]()
It's been a long time since I've seen TTM but it left an impression. If you love cinematography, 'The Third Man' is definitely for you.![]()
Little big Man by Thomas Berger, one of the very best book to film adaptions ever made and a personal favourite.Little Big Man, Unforgiven, The Right Stuff....and more I'm sure, depends on the day I suppose
Wasn't 'the early stages' over here. Lots of great propaganda films made, in the UK.Yes indeed, and I do understand.
One of few very anti-**** movies made prewar and in the early stages.
