Tubes aren't going to disappear as long as there is demand to make them, annually in large numbers. Everyone just keep using your tube amps, and everything's gonna be fine.

A problem could arise with the big manufacturers that used Shuguang stock. They can build them fast enough, but it wouldn't make much sense to deliver them to retailers without tubes.

I read that, but we shall see.

If its lasting, we might see JJs and tung sols in low end tune amps made from '22-'23?

Tubes are important for musicians, audiophiles, and radio enthusiasts, so the demand will exist for the chinese factory to exist again. Matthew's referenced them "moving", but unless you have a regular contact in china who you do business with, details probably wont be a thing.
I'm sure one or more of his companies do business with the same factory, or a nearby one, but I can't see us getting an official "X factory will not be making tubes as of Y date, until we move operations to Z location " regarding this.

This wont raise $$ as much as raw materials shortages (cough cough, buying wood right now) probably would, so theres that I guess?

This is the otoh. There are caches of NOS and more recent production, people who have Stocked Up, and folks who will run out of pier, as it were, before they run out of tubes.

And so tubes trickle back into the market.

We're probably just getting into the Golden Age of boomers' kids liquidating dad's crap, aren't we?

Maybe, since he's running at 100% in his factory, he can stimulate demand some more and start raising prices with an article like that?

    Two words!

    TONE MASTER!

When that craps out in 10 years I don’t know....

Oh pooie! I forgot about my vibro champ, time to stock up fellows, which will drive the prices up also by taking them out of circulation

Mike Mathews has just caused the panic in which the price will be driven up in his market, kind of smart on his part

Which has been going on since.... well you know

Yes yes I didn’t read the story, I suck

Well, if there is a shortage and thus a worldwide demand for tubes, then there is a huge business opportunity for someone…

(I only use solid state amps so this doesn’t affect me ;)).

Oh - that tube amp is my backup. I have a 30+ year old Bandit with a speaker upgrade that gets played more ;)

It would be a chore to produce tubes in a lotta of locations due to environmental impact.

Ok, it's a factory that's moving to another location. That takes months, maybe a year or more, to move and restart something like a tube operation. That will have an impact on the supply of new tubes. I discount the hyperbole of Matthews and Guitar.com. IMO the idea that we're faced with a "perfect storm" creating "worldwide panic" is ludicrous.

Damn....... I got big bucks for most of my vintage tubes last year, sold too early I guess!

..... and another "shortage" created for profit!

I was about to read the article, but the link about unreleased Beach Boys songs caught my interest instead. Anyone else looking forward to a Sunflower / Surf's Up box set?
