    Hello everyone,

I have the chance to get a Fender Mexico Standard Stratocaster from 2001/2002 in Midnight guy is asking 350 Euros but I can make him an offer / price suggestion.

The body I think looks fine on the pictures only the maple neck is concerning me a bit as it shows fretboard wear and also the headstock shows a kinda like road worn / relic which I think is kind of unusual as they are usually finished with poly which shouldn’t age that way for example my Fender Mexico Telecaster from 2008 doesn’t look similar compared and doesn’t show wear like this.

What about the fretwear as well is this too much for vintage style frets or is it still fine ?

I‘m probably check it out atleast as it isn’t that much far away from me

but should I probably stay away from it or maybe go for it and what would you offer ?

    Thanks in Advance

Looks fine that neck looks like a satin finish which is thin compered to poly so if it has been well played except some wear
post a picture of the head stock serial if you want help on it
    the price is decent

I'd be a bit concerned about fret wear since the fretboard shows a lot of wear.

350 should be a good price but it depends a lot on the local market. $350 would be a great price here in the US though, given that average prices on these guitars are nearly at $500 now thanks to low supply and high demand.

It has been played, but looks pretty normal. I have a MIM Strat with about the same finish on the neck.

It has honest wear. Frets don't look worn to me. It was probably played a lot because it sounds good

    The price is fair.
The question is, “is it worth it to you”?

At that price, if you don't grab it quick it will be gone.

Looks good, has some nice honest wear which means it's been played - and 350Euro is a very reasonable price. I'd snap it up.

Looks good to me! I like seeing honest wear on a guitar, shows the owner really dug it etc. so it's probably a pretty good sound machine ;)

Unfortunately the Serial Number was censored before he uploaded the picture but you can still see it’s starting with MZ

Thanks for the replies, today I’m gonna try it out if it’s fine I will probably pick it up.

Just one question how does the wear on the headstock (right corner of the picture) create, is this normal just worn like the fretboard over time because normally you don’t touch this part that often I think.

it’s not disturbing for me but I’m just curious how this could probably happened.

I wouldn't worry about the frets. They look fine.

Having said that, I'm not convinced the fretboard wear is 'honest'. I could be wrong though.

I barely see any fret wear at all... maybe a little tarnishing but the frets themselves look decent

Edit: Now i can see moderate wear on the first two frets, seems doable though especially if it’s been played enough for that wear

I have a strat with fingerboard wear like that and the frets are just about completely flat

It’s difficult to be sure. It doesn’t look too bad and should you need to refret in future, it should be a neater job on that satin neck than if it was glossy.

Unless you’re looking to change pickups or like the sound of ceramic pickups, I would personally get a more modern one with the alnicos. They really did improve those models over time. If you can get a deal might be worth it though.

I was also thinking about this probably if the deal is very good and I get it, I’m thinking of converting it to a SSS Strat. I just need to find some good Pickups for it.
