Is this not absurd?

Am I the only guy who thinks it's absurd when people list guitar-shaped Rock Band video game controllers, and Paper Jamz guitars, for sale under "musical instruments"?

Speaking of absurd, I did some looking around last night and discovered that Paper Jamz was sued by Gibson because one of their products had a likeness to the Les Paul. Seriously... It was thrown out of court, but again.... seriously?

Somebody needs to sit down with Gibson and have an intervention.

    They lost.
They didn’t take the right steps to protect their designs almost 3/4 of a century ago, and now they’re crying about it.

Maybe if they quit spending so much money on lawyers and other stupid stuff, and became what they formerly were—a high-end musical instrument manufacturer—they would be back in the black financially.

Use the Epiphone label for your every day starter-to-serious hobbyist-to-average gigging musician, and use Gibsons for your high-end stuff.

Like Ford and Lincoln or Chevy and Cadillac.

With you on the Rock Band controllers. See it here pretty regular on CL. Honestly, that people are even trying to sell them is laughable. Take them to Goodwill.

Gibson... what else is left to say. I feel bad about it, competition is good, but they did it to themselves.

Contrast with Fender from where both were back when I started playing (in 1979) is just amazing... my wife's doing Fender Play right now and loving it. That's how you grow future business imo, versus selling useless branded crap as above. I know Fender has merch but get real.

I think John Fogerty being sued by his old record company because his solo album sounded too much like Creedence Clearwater Revival is absurd.

That’s the “stupid stuff” I was referring to...

Not that they’re “bad” things, but it’s not something a guitar builder needs to worry about.

It shows how out-of-touch Henry was with the average musician—he thought we’d all jump at the chance to have a hi-fi that costs more than a good used car...he was marketing towards the kind of people that don’t know how much groceries cost because they don’t have to budget for them.

    Lawsuit
Gibson Guitar Corporation filed a lawsuit November 18. 2010 in Federal court, the Central District of California, against WowWee USA and their Paper Jamz guitars charging trademark infringement.[2][3] The lawsuit claimed that the Paper Jamz guitars copied the looks of some of Gibson's famous guitars, the Gibson Les Paul, the Gibson Flying V, the Gibson Explorer, and the Gibson SG. On December 21, 2010 Gibson was granted a request for an injunction against WowWee and retailers in the United States which were selling Paper Jamz guitars: Walmart, Amazon, Big Lots stores, Kmart Corporation, Target Corporation, Toys "R" Us, Walgreens, Brookstone, Best Buy, eBay, Toywiz.com, and Home Shopping Network (HSN).[4][5][6]

The case was dismissed with prejudice (dismissed permanently) January 11, 2011 by Federal Judge R. Gary Klausner.[7][8] According to Gibson CEO, Henry Juszkiewicz, WowWee later paid Gibson an undisclosed amount of money to license the likeness of Gibson guitars.[9]

Paper Jamz products continued manufacture into 2011 and then seem to have ceased production.

Anyone trying to sell used Paper Jamz today is a fool. In a few short years they will be 'vintage Paper Jamz' and the price will skyrocket. Hang onto your collection, dudes! :p

I held on to an unopened box of Hannah Montana crayons, hoping their value would skyrocket when she became a train wreck. Sad to say, I am likely the only man in America with an unopened box of Hannah Montana crayons.

Try rolling it. It's a bit easier, but sometimes you slip and smash your hand.

What happened was this: The Paper Jamz went out of tune as quickly and, as badly as the Gibson's did.

I have to side with Gibson on this.

Paper Jamz also ripped off the strength of Gibson's neck/headstock.

And, with all of these flaws, they still found a way to charge less than Gibson.

Putting turntables, game controllers and "Paper Jamz" into a classification of musical instruments is quite like calling DJs musicians, or venues advertising having a DJ as "live music." Lies all around!:confused:
