Thinking of trading a used (but not lately) 65 Twin Reverb ReIssue for this:

    http://detroit.craigslist.org/wyn/msg/5615820839.html

Seller claims it's a custom shop neck and body, not that I care about THAT so much...
It does have 22 frets, and COULD be a 1 piece body...but no serial # on the neck?

I'm not an expert, but it looks waaaaaay off. The neck truss rod plug looks like a cheap neck with misplaced logo on it.

Craigslist deal, pretty much says watch out. You could get the shaft while the other guy gets the goldmine. Take it from someone who's been down this road and barely escaped without getting taken for a ride. Swap him a Champ 20 if you have one.

A copy wouldn't have the offset screw saddles. I believe (at least the body) is an American Standard. At least it appears to be a 5-year-old or so American Standard bridge - pre Strat saddles. The neck is tough to say. Might be a CS. Hard to tell. I really don't think it's an offshore copy though. The body looks to be a Fender. But, there aren't enough pics to say for sure.

It does say custom shop 'inspired' in the ad.

I notice a lot of Custom Shop guitars are defined (by the sellers) as being sent to a 'shop' and then customized. Notice the seller never says Fender Custom Shop (though they did stick that decal on the back of the neck).

It's a partscaster his description pretty much says it. But he's definitely bigging, custom shop hardware there's no such thing it's all processed the same way with the same metal. No difference between that and a mim with some new pups IMO.

I wrote him, he says it was originally a "Pat's Guitar Voodoo lounge" Telecaster, that he swapped the SD loaded guard off of and replaced with the twangbuckers. He still has the guard with the pups he'll throw in... From my internet search there it's probably a USA body. Neck has a wood plug, not plastic, so maybe USA too, or aftermarket... Still, not worth a straight up trade for the Twin.

Do you see a problem with that Long Island Custom Shop?

I mean the Detroit one is definitely not a Fender Custom Shop but I don't see any big telltale signs on this other one except the pictures are poor and the seller doesn't show either the serial number or the body stamps.

The sloppy tuner alignment, the truss rod hole/sleeve and the 3 ply plastic B/B/B pickguard all say "FSR-BSB " to me

Sooner or later the public is going to come to their senses, that when it comes to Craigslist, no one sells their best stuff on that scam of a site. Glad that your asking and I'm definitely not an expert in determining fake from real Teles but... Craigslist is the last place that I would buy a C/S or high end instrument.

Read the ad carefully: "Custom shop inspired fender telecaster built with custom shop neck, body & hardware with dimazio twangking pickups in mint condition looking to trade for fender twin reverb".

How about a fender twin reverb inspired amp? funny how these guys always want to trade mis-matched stuff for the genuine article
