    Hi!!

I was wondering if you could help me with this guitar a friend of mine bought from a a renowned Chicago music store. He was told it's a 2012 AVRI Custom 62 Telecaster, but body and neck says 2010 in a very strange sticker (at least to me, i haven't' seen those stickers before.). Serial number matches with a 64 and finally, the electronics are really bad soldier so it can't be original.

I'm not an expert so that's why i'm asking for your advice, please be nice hehe.

Hope you can give me a hand on this.

    Greetings!!

Something isn't right. Here is what the serial number comes up as from Fender's site. Always check serial numbers before buying. That sticker on the headstock is something I have never seen before, but I am no expert.

Looks like a fender vintage reissue neck on a squier classic vibe body. They had the neck routed for a humbucker or single coil, also the black paint inside the cavity is a squier thing.

Also all the decals inside the neck pocket and on the neck don’t look like any avri or AV fender I’ve ever seen

These little dimples or cut outs in the neck pocket is definitely a squier thing

Agree with what everyone else said. Not AVRI body. It wouldn't have a humbucker route or the extra routing in neck pocket.

Agreed - parts guitar with an AV '64 Tele neck plate. The number stickers are part number bar codes and they don't match up with either the USA AVRI '62 Custom Tele or the AV '64 Tele neck (which of course wouldn't say "Custom Telecaster" anyway). I found the Squier CV Tele service manual but it conveniently doesn't list the part numbers for the body and neck, so I'm thinking the neck is also from a CV Tele with the Squier decals removed (front and back) and the Fender decal applied.

And lord knows what is going on with the electronics given that soldering.

Neck is possibly correct as it neck plate and tuners but the rest - looks like the correct me K plate and switch but some soldering.

    Body, scratch plate are wrong.

    I'd be taking it back.

Thanks a lot, now everything makes more sense. My friend is negotiating a refund right now, but the people at the "Exchange Music Store of Chicago" LOL say all the parts are american fender, so they offer only 250$ for the "inconvenience".

    What a rip off

    Thanks again!

    That’s not an A.V 64 neck with a 9.5 radius

    Tuners aren’t right either

I wouldn’t be surprised if the neck isn’t fender, too thick for a squier

I’m surprised Chicago music exchange would sell such a questionable guitar

Have your friend tell Chicago Music Exchange to give him a full refund - there is no way in hell anything from that guitar is USA except the neck plate - or he will pursue filing a legal complaint as this is a fraudulent item.

Threaten them with legal action, they’ve misrepresented what they’ve sold.

Have your friend tell the vendor that if they do not give a full refund that he'll be filing a complaint with the state Attorney General's consumer fraud division.

The Better Business Bureau is one thing, but the office that can have their business license revoked is another.

What is with this company lately? Is corona hitting them hard? Between the store and website (reverb.com), I have been seeing numerous complaints from people on a few forums. This sale is absolutely absurd.

I'm shocked that CME let that one get by.

Definitely a Squier Classic Vibe Custom body.

The neck is NOT Squier though, as it is heel adjust. All the CV's are headstock adjust.

The neck looks like Allparts. The headstock shape is off with the first curve from the end being even with the second tuner post. It should be just above the second tuner post, even with the tuner button. I'd like to have it in my hands. I could tell you in 10 seconds if anything was sanded off and refinished.

I wonder if the stickers on the heel are hiding the remnants of the Allparts branded stamp.

The switch is an Oak Grigsby knock off. Fender would use CRL unless it's a 4-way.

The Classic Vibe does NOT come with cloth pushback... I'd like to see the bottoms of the pickups and see if those are CV pickups or not.

IF it plays nice, and f I could nail down the provenance of the neck THEN knowing the origins of the neck and body, I'd give you $350 for it... minus $50 because I'd have to clean up the crap solder or replace a couple pots, wires, cap, etc. Ends up about the same price as a used CVC.

Yeah, this is a MAJOR stain on CME, if everything the O.P. has been told can be confirmed.

I think the neck is NOT USA, as the tuning machines are not the usual, correct form.
