I used the word 'stupider' ironically....because being ironic is a strong indicator of intelligence. In fact, I'd estimate that I'm more intelligent than well over 78.32% of the population. Also, when I wrote 'stupider' I heard Homer Simpson's voice say it so that was a good indicator I was doing the right thing.

I think it's even worse than that! Just the fact that I'm on Facebook is not a good sign of my level of functional intelligence!

Think about how stupid the average person is. Then realize half the world is more stupider than that!

As an engineer I demand precision but use iterative calculations that oscillate toward a best fit solution to get there. Stupid people have no idea what I’m talking about.

I'd also point out that in the past effective advertising consisted of printing complete nonsense claims because whole generations were gullible enough that they believed literally anything they read if it was in a "legitimate publication":

The number of people who qualify as average is large making the number of below average people something less than half the world’s population. The number of brilliant people is more than many of us imagine but that is only because of the world’s population is large. Stay away from the tables if you don’t understand this.

"I have trained over 2054 particular individuals."

    That sounds more righter.

I think the world was always stupid. It's just getting easier to manipulate people into an "Us vs. Them" mentality using social media and the internet.

I tell my wife this regularly. I've always thought myself as slightly above average intelligence, which means that (over) 50% of the population is dumber than I am. This is an alarming thought when you stop to think that in the US alone this is potentially upwards of 200 million people!
So when I see a TV show/movie/advertisement and think in exasperation to myself, "who the heck would like this crap?!?" I remind myself of this above statistic and then think, "oh yeah, guess the target audience is pretty big."

Undoubtedly yes. People are also becoming lazier, greedier and less accountable and responsible for their actions.

The way I look at it, if it didn't work, they wouldn't be doing it. I used to wonder why used car salesmen use such obviously shady tactics. But, same answer.

Actually, there was a serial killer in BC, Willie Pickton, who claimed to have killed 49 women. He ran a pig farm. At one point in the investigation, the RCMP asked anyone who had sausage from him in their freezers to bring them in for DNA testing

In geodesy we start with the premise we know where we aren't and then iterate until we get to where we are.
