I got 49mpg highway with my Omni. But it made up for the fuel savings in clutches.

I bought my first Telecaster in 1983 and it was American. I sold it in 2007 and I don't miss it in the least.

My wife's Camry was a POS car from front to back, so the analogy sucks big time.

Did you really bother to THINK before making this absurd statement??

You bought a Toyota Camry in 2000 ...... HOW MUCH IS IT WORTH NOW in 2020???? $17,500 for a LX model in 2000, worth today in 2020? $2,000. You bought an "Elite" BMW 5 series in 2000, $60,000 ..... in 2020? My friend has a MINT BMW 525, he can't even sell it, NO ONE WANTS IT!

A Fender Stratocaster American Standard Sunburst, Maple Neck, Trem, with HSC. LIST $1049. But we all know chain stores in the 1980's, 90's, 2000's ALL DISCOUNT, unless you're going in a "mom and pop" music store, NO ONE pays MSRP. Guitar Center routinely discounts 20%. So that 2000 Strat Am Std was $840. + tax.

So BUB ... on Reverb "Good" 2000 Fender Strat Am Std. are selling for $590 — $730 TODAY, on EBay (because their sellers are even more greedy) about $50 to $100 MORE!

You wanna tell us just how you came up with how a Fender Strat American Standard "Don't hold their value that well due to how plentiful and common they are." ......??

Fender year 2000 Product Price List. D'uh.

Bzzzzt. Sorry, that's not retaining value. The 2020 dollar is worth 42 cents of the 1985 dollar. To retain value the $1000 guitar bought in 1985 would need to sell for $2400.

I have several thinnish neck guitars, not intentionally; and then there's the Am Std neck you just love to grab onto. It's the biggest neck guitar I have and I relish that about it.

Don’t know about AM STD = Toyota Camry
But I’ve heard that turning up to a gig with a stratocaster is akin to going on a date in tracksuit pants.

Maybe a Toyota, maybe a VW Golf. In fact to me my American Standard is my best playing and best sounding tele – despite owning an AVRI and several posh nitro-finished extra lightweight swampash partscasters. I mail-ordered it, when the series were substituted by the professional series – so I assume that standard means that (nearly) all samples have a high quality standard.

I just don’t see an American Standard as a Camry. It’s a simple thing held together with screws that works pretty well until something fails and then it can be repaired at home in the garage. There’s nothing sophisticated about it. Folks have dropped in more power, but it’s still what it is. Looking at the auto world, it’s more a Bel Air than anything else. A ‘55 Bel Air.

Is that a reliced or roadworn Camry?

I hope you both got out of the crash ok!
