For people who are on macOS and Apple: If you recently updated to Safari 12, it will deactivate your ad blocker if you had one installed (like AdBlock Plus or uBlock Origin). It will warn you that "we deactivated your ad blocker because it will slow down your browsing experience" or something like that, but this doesn't seem to be true. Go to "Settings" and turn it back on. Problem solved...

Yeah, I don’t know know why they haven’t got an SSL cert for this site. HTTPS is as old as dust. They only reason for not using it was that an SSL certificate used to cost big money. Now that OpenSSL is available an SSL certificate costs zero money down, no payments ever. TDPRI should figure out how to get a certificate and then configure the server to redirect all traffic to HTTPS. It’s the responsible thing to do.

Are people still having this issue? Just wondering if people have tried changing their DNS servers and if it's helping.

    On phone or other device?

The OP was complaining about it on a mobile phone. I checked it recently on mine, iPhone 6. No problem, no pop ups, nothing weird.

It's not this sites fault. But this sites fault is that it still, more often than not, contains all these "chinese" spams of university that pops up ever so often. And the admins can't do anything about it. No other fora shows this which I participate in, neither ultimate guitar, tgp, gearslutz, talkbass, notreble, etc. You name it.

TDPRI is the only one where these "chinese" language posts/threads turns up and bloats the forum "en masse". Never seen this happen on other sites, regardless of their jurisdiction.

What's with all the Chinese stuff on the DIY channel there is about 4 pages of it again all from just about every university in the world. Is there some way to block this rubbish?

Yes. "Ignore" the poster, then refresh. Easy peasy

The Chinese spammers are very annoying. The ignore works but gets tedious to have to use all the time. Google translator comes in handy to send them personal messages to try discouraging them from spamming.:)

Unfortunately it’s not just one, it’s lots of different posters so you’d be spending more time ignoring posters than actually reading the forum.

Seems to be a bit better recently, but at times it’s made the whole forum unusable.

I get these pop-ups constantly on my iPhone but not on this site. It is getting very frustrating. I get them mostly on sites where I have searched for something via Google. Sometimes I can go back to the search page and then back to the same page but usually I still get the pop-up. Never happens on my desktop (macOS).

I ignore them one by one, as they come up, and don't really give it another thought. It's simple and not a big deal, to me, and, it certainly beats the alternative

Yep, that's the way. They use Apache server, so mod_redirect is a completely unobtrusive way to make people land at the secure site.

Just installed ad blocker. Hopefully that helps. Sorry, tdpri, I resisted using an ad blocker for a long time so you could get some revenue from me, but the site is unusable with the redirect ads.
