I’m no longer a fan of the P-90 thang and prefer big singles with alnico rods but that IS cool and exciting.
That's exactly where I'm at too. Just installed a set of Porter pickups 9Ts. Huge single coil with big thick tone, clear as a bell and none of the p90 edge. Sweet highs clean and big nasty drive tones with zero shrillness. When I turn up the tone knob on the guitar, I just get more detail, not more treble. The big alnico rods are the way to go.

A friend of mine has the ♊ Supro-style Tele pickup in one of his guitars; it's a brutal bruiser, lots of output, but not muddy at all, very "in-your-face", quite different from a traditional Tele bridge pickup, not very twangy, definitely geared towards dirty rather than clean tones.

I have the Gemini Dynacaster (Dynasonic style thicker magnets and 44AWG wire) in a thinline Tele with a Bigsby B16 - definitely turns that guitar into a Gretsch in disguise...

I just hope to live long enough to really know all the pickups I already have, yet still I look for more…
So many pickup so little time!
Just a few I dug out to model.

You (and everyone here!) may be interested to try a TV Jones Magna’Tron which is a Filtertron type but with all alnico poles.
TVJ makes a mounting ring to adapt it to regular HB guitars, plus they make it in a PAF size so it drops in to any LP etc.

Humbucking of course and fat-bright but more like a P-90 than like a PAF.
My only favorite HB.

Sure, why not? But, what means "pickups for the space age"? In what way?

Retro tagline that evokes the golden age of guitars in the late 50s and early 60s, when the space age began. Renewed relevance today because the space age is being revived (Space X, Blue Origin, etc.)

Anyone tried this? (I haven't)

That could be handy for people that but em without actually playing them. What's weird is most of the demos you find on YouTube for pickups and guitars are slathered with effects. I guess they think it's gonna sell the product but they probably have a lot of returns. It wouldn't make sense to me as a seller, but what do I know? I do know that I read a lot of posts about people being dissatisfied with pickups and guitars they bought based on the demo.

I’ve got this little beasty on its way from New York in the Us of A. Is it ok to be exited about a pickup? It’s a Gemini Supra bridge, and I keep checking the delivery updates (I’m in the UK). I cannot wait to get this thing and get it installed. A hand made thing of beauty for my Tele partscaster that I built, sprayed and fettled myself. It’s for my gold avatar guitar and I am litterally counting down the minutes to get it. View attachment 1394983View attachment 1394987

Is it ok to be exited about pickups????

I’d say it depends on a few things.. one, what does she look like, and two, is she working “vice” 😲

And, is she really a "she?"

Not a slam. You know the deal: trust but verify.

Cheers @Peegoo the shoreline gold nitro I used on it really shimmers in the light. This guitar was my first ‘proper’ build and spray.
I'm certain you'll get a lot of satisfaction out of having created if and making it exactly what you want. And hell yes it's OK to be excited about pickups. They're the primary voice of the guitar.

About 10 years ago or so I started down that same road of making one of my Teles into my own creation except in my case the body was more than sufficient for my purposes. After I'd replaced the neck and bridge I spent around 4 years trying different pickup combinations until I finally arrived at what I have in it now. Wilde Alnico Micro-Coils.

Glad to hear you've had a similar experience.

Thanks, yes it’s really good to make the guitar personal. The pickup has arrived so I’ll get a couple of pics and my thoughts on it as soon as I get it installed this week.👍
