I’ve got this little beasty on its way from New York in the Us of A. Is it ok to be exited about a pickup? It’s a Gemini Supra bridge, and I keep checking the delivery updates (I’m in the UK). I cannot wait to get this thing and get it installed. A hand made thing of beauty for my Tele partscaster that I built, sprayed and fettled myself. It’s for my gold avatar guitar and I am litterally counting down the minutes to get it. IMG_7830.jpegIMG_2769.jpeg

Oh, I don't know. My son pinched my Epiphone Flying V and immidiately ordered a pair of Seymour Duncan pickups to replace the lousy OEM pickups. He brought it over and we put them in together. The difference was astounding! When he passed, I "inherited" the guitar back. I immediately changed the strings and set it up for me. Now, to get the nerve to play the guitar. More, HERE.

Hell yes it is. Especially when you install them and hear them for the first time and laugh because we've all spent obscene funds on guitars and amps and effects and suddenly you realize what a difference pickups can make. Huge ROI and allows you to enjoy/use your existing instruments and kit even more.

Hell, yes, it's ok to be excited about pickups! That GAS or GE (gear excitement) one experiences when anticipating new/old gear is a real thing.

For the last 7-9 years, I've pretty much stopped buying gear as my health will no longer allow gigging. For home playing, I've got more than I'll ever need.....(so I tell and try to convince myself) However, when I see/read/hear about some piece of gear that I truly lust after, that sparkle/bubble that hits me ol' stomach says "Buy it! Buy it!.

I rarely buy anything though.. unless I have the extra cash and (important!) I can procure a bit of profit upon a quick sell. It has to make sense for the amount of spare $ I have, (usually not much!) and how much profit it will return. I want the buyer to feel like they have received a quality piece of gear that exceeds expectations.

I'd say i'm usually not so much excited waiting for a pickups as nervous. It's once i install it, if i am thrilled with it, then i'm excited. Not till then tho because i know how pickups are...probably 1 in 5 times i'm close to 100% happy with them, but the rest of the time it's from sorely disappointed to just adequate. Last pickups i got (for my LP) i'm extremely happy with thankfully.
