Is it an NGD if it’s not store bought?

Got this basically brand new American professional telecaster from Craigslist. Owner said he plays keyboards now and was going to use it for some rhythm work. It was one of those have to pinch yourself deals. Still had protective plastic on neck pickup. I don’t think the guy even knew it was there. I was short almost a hundred bucks when I got there and told the guy we could go to the nearest cash machine and he said don’t bother. Ok, so then I asked if he had the original sales receipt. He provided it so it was legit.

I’m still new at this and technically challenged with wandering thumbs.

It's new to you. Do you want to make up some silly acronym which no one understands but you?

Heck yes it's a NGD. Way I've always seen it is it's new to you. I don't buy many brand new guitars. Would be a sad day if I couldn't post whenever I had a new acquisition.

    Congrats!

I think I've bought three new guitars in my entire life. So, on average one every 13 years or so would be kind of depressing. That said, two of them predated the Internet, so we didn't have "NGD" yet. I suppose I could have bought an ad in the local newspaper, or mailed someone a postcard. But then again, I wasn't depressed. I mean, I was, but the guitars were the fix for that.

More often then not, I guess I would have walked up to them and said "I got a new guitar today", and I could have milked that for about a week, but we're talking about two or three people. If you get to 5 or 6, some probably new each other, and would have talked to each other. So by the time you get to a week, they respond with "I heard", which is kind of validating, because people are talking about you, but also disappointing, because it's less that you get to say. It's bittersweet.

Life used to be so complicated. So many emotions. Now everything is just information. Much easier. You just need to make sure everything is correct.

Cool looking guitar! What do you particularly like about this one- other than the great deal, of course. :)

I was surprised to see how smooth the neck was being a poly finish. Also the neck shape took me a couple hours to get used to it but I really like it. But most amazingly, I swear the owner never played it. There were no visible pick scratches or buckle rash. Most of the pick scratches on it now are mine.

    Three people?

I only had two and the second one was a snob who didn't give a rip unless it was a Gibson Les Paul Custom and a Marshall stacks! (yeah, you had to have both or he wouldn't even acknowledge your right to exist). You should have seen his face when I bought a fake import "lawsuit" LP Custom for $125 which looked pretty convincing from five feet away!

    face-with-tears-of-joy 2.JPG

Unfortunately after that there was just the other guy and he was mostly jealous that whatever I got wasn't his. So, actually, there was just me...

    Not Amused.JPG

So "NGD" was "Nobody Gives a Damn" day for me...

    Cry1.JPG

But all that's changed since the internet! Thousands of friends who sincerely care about my gear acquisitions and what I ate for lunch!

    Congrats!

For a second I thought it was some weird double cutaway tele from the shadows in the pic, like Mike Bloomfield's chopped up tele...whew!
