Honestly, if you read this thread carefully you'll find that most, if not all of us, participating are singing the praises of digging ourselves out of bad situations and turning our lives around. Some achieved it through religion, some didn't. At the end of the day, it doesn't matter how sobriety is packaged or perceived, only that it's achieved.

That's the central thing here-supporting each other in any way that is necessary in order to help others achieve their goals. Most AA meetings are no different.

Uh no. 32 years sober. I'm not a Christian I gave that up in high school. In any event AA is for people who want sobriety not those that need it.

I'm going to a Narcotics Anonymous meeting tonight to celebrate 15 years of recovery.

13 1/2 years sober. Never went to meetings, did it on my own. Still miss that feeling, you know? The world is right when you can’t feel your nose.

Used to drink beer like a fish in my younger days then changed to vodka. After that I didn't like the taste of beer anymore. Vodka is almost like drinking petrol or something so I quit that.

I feel way better now! :)

I decided to take a month off of drinking after New Years 2015, it felt so good I haven’t touched the stuff since. The added bonus of not spending money on booze has also helped my guitar collection grow considerably.

    Hey, congratulations!
I missed this old thread popping up for a minute.

Last night I celebrated 21 years at my home group.
Life has been very very challenging and stressful lately, but I haven't even considered solving my problems with a drink or a drug.

Funny , the thing I hated most about sobering up was the danmed meetings . On the other hand I outlived everyone in my group , still sober though:p

30 years sober. I didn’t use AA, but one day at a time was a key concept for me. Keeping my family intact was also a strong motivator.

Although I don't feel in particular jeopardy, I've been attending a relapse-prevention group that meets every Wednesday. One of the things that keeps coming up is the tendency for addicts to isolate themselves when they're headed toward a slip or a relapse. If a person finds themselves starting to spend too much time alone, it's a healthy thing to seek out some companionship.

I'm a dry drunk, or anyway that's what an AA guy told me. I haven't had a drink since the last day of 1997. When my son died, I knew I had kicked booze once and for all because I didn't even think of crawling back into a bottle. If I had taken that first drink, I probably would have never stopped. My uncle lost two of his sons in a traffic accident many years ago, he took to the bottle, and never came back. Old Jack Daniels was once a good friend of mine but I don't much like him anymore. He's let me down one too many times.

I know what you mean. Vodka costs over $20.00 a bottle.

Don't miss it a bit. For me it was just deciding to quit a habit. Not a big deal.

I noaa or quite a bit after 13 years. Every day you can’t feel your nose was a good day. I don’t miss the guy I was at that time. I won’t be that man again. But, hell yeah, I miss it.

I worked cleaning out my garage yesterday in the heat, afterword I was thinking that a cold beer sure would be good.

29 years clean and sober last October 23rd, so this year will be my dirty thirty. Haven't been to a meeting since '97 or so, not that I couldn't have used one now and again, I just got on with normal life once I figured out that drugs and alcohol won't work for me in any variety or amount.

I stopped drinking a little over 4 years ago. AA didn't work, rehab didn't work, I'm not really sure how i did it, but I'm so glad I did. i still smoke pot.
