Is a Les Paul (shape) with Tele pickups/bridge a crime?

    .

Get a Tele half-bridge, more flexible for installing the pickups.
The key to Twang is the ergonomics of the bridge and where your hand rests, not that it's got a ring of metal around the pickup.

The control plate isn't needed, just run the controls from the back side like a regular LP.

If you want an inexpensive platform to mess around with, look for an Epiphone Special II used. They have been discontinued so the typical used price around $50-$100 may not last long. They have a tele-feeling neck carve.

Buy a Gibson Marauder or S-1. I think the Sonex is even cheaper. Just make a new Pickguard and put whatever you want in there.

Totally reversible mods. Cool and unique vintage Gibson.
