The number of big-name folks who died this year is really remarkable, but is 2016 truly the worst year for that?

Here are some famous folks who died in 2014:

    Philip Seymour-Hoffman
    Robin Williams
    Jack Bruce
    Johnny Winter
    Joan Rivers
    Maya Angelou
    Shirley Temple
    Joe Cocker
    Mickey Rooney
    James Garner
    Lauren Bacall
    Harold Ramis
    Casey Kasem
    Phil Everly
    Bob Hoskins
    Tommy Ramone
    Pete Seeger
    David Brenner
    John Pinette
    Edward Herrmann

There's not a lot of huge rock stars on that list, and perhaps that's why 2016 seems worse.

Dying is a part of life. At least the people on this list were able to leave something tangible behind. Most people don't get the opportunity afforded to this list.

I don't expect that 2017 will be any better.

For many of us here, the heroes of our youth are getting older and older, and more and more frail.

I suppose you're right, Kel. Give us a little license for being human. As with all perspectives, the only one that matters is now...

I totally get it that aging rockstars are going to die, but Prince and Bowie seemed ageless. Those two really stood out.

Yeah, horrible year. Can't wait to get back to a different year when nobody dies.

(With all due respect to jimeadams who did have a bad year, may your mother rest in peace)

I'm going to stick with 1351 as the worse year ever, although 1493 is a close contender.
