I'm really loving all the new features and functionality that have been added to my iPad! The final 4.2.1 seems to work a lot better than the earlier GM releases. Hard to believe it but I actually like my iPad even more now. I just wish the AirPrint thru a shared printer feature was implemented in the final release.

Anyone else running it on their iPad yet?

got it as soon as it is available.

So far, it seems my major annoyances weren't addressed.

What were you hoping for that you did not get? Other than the scaled back AirPrint feature Apple delivered what they advertised and it's free too. I think it's a great update.

My gripes came before 4.2:

- method for fast scroll down
- guest user profile (or less realistically multiple user accounts)
- native network streaming from networked computer's itunes (Airplay from-to everything)

the announcement was kind of a letdown for me but multitasking and folders are nice.

1 will come
2 is much more complex to really address yet... the variables of the how and the why and the who and the when are not simple to resolve... this is a new century device... I'm sorry airprint exists... I wish it could have just been abandoned.
3 that is a really cool idea... it would be nice to see.

Updating my iPhone 3G now.

I just hope they address my two major gripes with IOS4.1:

1. dramatic battery drain with wifi on
2. randomly my iPhone 3G goes into recovery mode. Sometimes it gets out of that by holding the sleep and home button simultaneously, sometimes all I can do is restore. I read that some iPhone 4s have this too.

1. Thanks!
2. I understand the multiuser thing being very complex, but a simple guest mode should be a lot less complex: primary user chooses to enable or disable guest mode, personal apps like mail/photos/etc are unavailable, all other apps are enable/disable based on prefs toggle under primary user. Guest mode accessed by button on passcode screen, all data wiped after return to passcode screen, much like the Mac guest user acct.
3. I know I'm just one of many people wanting this, and there is app store options, but they aren't really presented in apple ui / integration standards. I think rolling that into a private API and giving it an apple front end integration to the ipod and video apps would be awesome. I'm sure there I. Team that's been working on it since before I even had an iPad though...

Lastly, and this is kind of a big deal for me personally, I would like to see iTunes play and organize DVD images. Ideally this would carry over to airplay and networked library sharing. I know there isn't an issue playing a DVD img over my network from my desktop to my laptop simply through accessing it in a shared folder, but I would need this to happen on apple tv for me to consider getting one. I've been ripping my dvd's down to images- now I need it to stream anywhere on command via the remote app.

That stupid looking "typo" reminds me of one more thing: ability to turn off iPad spell correct! Preferably through fast, universal software switching.

Also: hate that the perspective lock toggle has gone to software. Yes, i knew it was coming, but I used it constantly. Is there a place I can log a formal complaint regarding this feature?

Are you trying to share the printer via a PC? I tried the solution in this video:

and it worked perfectly using a 5+ year old Epson shared via a WinXP machine. Biggest problem for me is that none of the book readers I have support printing. (at least that I can see)

Latest rumours are stating that (link removed), maybe they'll put shared printer support back in for that release.

Waiting for a jailbreak lol. I love some of my jailbreak apps too much to live without them.

No, 100% Mac in my house, but I did find an AppleScript work around that re-enabled the shared printer feature. Very happy with the upgrade now, but there a few bugs that I have noticed. I love being down to 2 app screens and the app switching tray is great.

So, iOS 4.2.1 running for a few days... let's see:

1. dramatic battery drain with wifi on

No improvement.

2. randomly my iPhone 3G goes into recovery mode. Sometimes it gets out of that by holding the sleep and home button simultaneously, sometimes all I can do is restore. I read that some iPhone 4s have this too.

Happened to the iPhone again yesterday. No other option than to restore it.
