I went to a local shooting range yesterday to try to sight in a cheap red dot sight on my Rossi 44 Magnum carbine. I got one shot in when a police car drives up. They got into a storage shed and were taking stuff out. Then they drove up on the range.

The police dept. shooting instructor was trying to qualify a female officer with the police issued Glock 40 S&W handgun so I had to get out of the way. I was interested to see how it went and the officer let me watch the proceedings.

    Pretty interesting.

How does the red dot mount onto the Rossi. Is it a M92?

I had one of those years back before they put safeties on them. In 44 also. I got a thumb stuck in the loading port while pushing in a cartridge. Tore it wide open, probably should have got stitches but I was too embarrassed. Sold it a few weeks later. I miss that rifle to this day. Still have a Rossi pump in 22 from the same era. No trigger disconnect, just hold the trigger in and pump away. It was based on a Winchester pump 22.

I put a red dot scope on my .22 Ruger rifle. It made it very fun to shoot. No recoil from the rifle so it stays dead on accurate too.

You didn't say how the cop did. Did she pass?

I bet I had more fun about forty years ago. Went to an outdoor pistol range, and as I was finishing up two cars pulled up, five or six plainclothes officers got out (badges on their belts) with a big Army-type bag. came down to the range, and pulled out a Thompson submachine gun.....with the big drum magazine. Found out later, it belonged to a guy I later worked with. He owned the Thompson, but couldn't afford the yearly tax or license he had to pay the Feds, so he "loaned" it to the Burleson P.D. where he was a reserve officer. That way, he could go shoot it when he wanted, but other officers could too. That was a real "noise maker"....;)

    Glock 40 S&W ? No such gun....can't be a Glock and a Smith & Wesson simultaneously.
Glock 40cal. standard is Model 22 (G22)...typical LE handgun.

Can't tell if you're pulling his leg or not - but just going to take your post at face value. .40 cal is sometimes referred to as .40 Smith and Wesson. At least it was back when it first came out.

This, for example, is a barrel chambered for .40 S&W... that goes in my SIG.

I've got a Glock model 23 that has .40 SW stamped on the slide.

This is a stock image (Google)...

Interesting, watching training can teach us more about what to/ or remind what not to do.

Largest caliber I have at the moment is a 1911 (45 ACP).

She had kind of a hard time passing. I'm going to make up a bunch of reloads with a lighter charge that she can shoot better. I'll ask to see if she wants to work with me to get a better score. I think she could easily max it out if someone works with her. She was shooting factory ammo.
