Oh yeah - a solid 3 in a row then...

Van Morrison - Blowin' Your Mind and Astral Weeks

Riverside - Out of Myself, and Second Life Syndrome

and some instrumental bands/albums worthy of mention...

Al Di Meola - Land of the Midnight Sun, and Elegant Gypsy

Brand X - Unorthodox Behaviour, and Moroccan Roll (and their 3rd, 'Masques', was excellent as well)

Well, Astral Weeks is one of my favorite all-time albums...but Blowin' Your Mind isn't even close to a great album, it's mostly forgettable in my opinion.

I'll agree that those are their best two albums, and that there is quite a bit of garbage mixed in their catalog...but complete garbage? C'mon. Green album is a very solid pop album...Maladroit has some really good guitar playing on it, EWBAITE is a solid return to form, and so is the White Album. Red had its moments, as did Make Believe, the rest I will concede is pretty bad.

BTW - of all the great bands and albums mentioned, I think the two Chicago albums top them all for me. It's just shocking to me how talented that band was.

To each his own. As good as Brown Eyed Girl and He Ain't Give You None are, there just isn't enough on the rest of the album to make it "incredible". I mean, even he doesn't care for it. We'll have to agree to disagree on this one...at least we can agree on Astral Weeks :)

Amazed The James Gang haven't been mentioned. What a great 2nd album 'Rides Again' is!

Not sure it has aged as well as some other things but has anyone said Van Halen I and II yet?

If the criteria is a great debut and sophomore effort, I think they fit.

Their first album is a favorite of mine .
Glad to see Chicago get a well deserved mention . They were both double albums . That is a very high bar .
I will chime in with The Progressive Blues Experiment and Second Winter . We all know who he was .

Blind Faith. A great pity there wasn't a second album.

This is just my opinion but the more I listen to Leon's first two albums the more I like 'em. The guy has hit the ground running...sounds like himself and it's great.

    From the 2nd...
