My wife is done working early, so I got to play it a bit. This is a cool amp. Pristine sparkly cleans. The EQ controls have a very usable and pretty large sweep.
The reverb is digital, but sounds great. Very spring-like. Turned up really high it’s kinda overbearing and washes things out, but a lot of very popular fender tube amps do that, too. It’s miles better than the reverb in the Crush RT amps.
Trem is very good. Quite usable. I wish it went slower, but it’s not the end of the world. It sounds perfectly fine.
Like the 35RT, this thing is capable of insane volume considering its size and wattage. It is a clean machine. With my boxer Tele, which is loaded with low-medium output humbuckers, it doesn’t start to break up until 1-2 o’clock on the volume. Even then it’s very light breakup, and you have to dig in to get it. At that point the amp is far too loud for the majority of my gigs. It’s a great breakup, though. Quite musical.
The sound is more on the American side than the other orange amps I’ve owned. Clearer, more sparkly, less mid-forward. It still doesn’t sound like an American amp. It’s still got a decidedly Brit flavor, but it’s not all the way there, either. It’s a really good combination of the two.
I found a couple reviews online that compared it to a Princeton. I can see some similarities. It’s a compact, single speaker, single channel combo with reverb and trem. But it’s got a ton more clean headroom on tap, and definitely more sheer volume available. Physically I see the comparison. Sonically I don’t. The sealed back cab and 12” speaker give it a ton more punch and loads of big but tight bass.
I wanted a compact and lightweight rig that would do big, deep, clear, clean tones at gig volumes with a nice reverb. This definitely will do that. I’ll post again after I try it with the pedal board. I’m digging it. I’m off tonight but I’ll gig it tomorrow night.
