Yes, we all have dozens of overdrives, and yes, we always use the Hm-2 when forced to choose.

But what effects do we use to enhance our clean tones?

Chorus? Delay? Reverb? Vibrato? Tremolo? Octave?

Go on, share your favourites?
Yes, all of the above and a Harmonist as well as a Phaser.

I was being cheeky. I use a blues driver or ds1. But the hm2 is very unpopular for some reason. I don’t know why. I don’t have one but they sound great.
Unpopular? Did you see the prices they were going for before the reissue? There are whole genres inspired by that thing.

With its virtually endless variety of gorgeous reverbs, delays, choruses, trems, etc., the TC Plethora can’t be beat in the clean category.

If I play clean, I need at least a hint of reverb (Spring or plate). compression is equally important because I play mostly with my fingers and I don't always have the best dynamic control. My Effectrode LA1A works as a pre/boost/comp and is always on.

In Boss BCB60 - Boss DM2 Delay, Behringer UC200 Chorus, Marshall RF1 Reverb.
In Boss BCB30 - Boss BF2 Flanger
In my DIY home pedalboard - Eno CH-2 Chorus & Eno AD-6 Andoer Delay.

But I rarely play clean. All the above are used with overdrives.

•Wampler Ego compressor,
•TC Corona chorus with "clean chorus" toneprint (subtle)
•TC Hall of Fame (again set real low)
•Strymon El Capistan (only when needed for ambient washes)

Been playing for 40 years, and I actually had to look up and see what your hm2 is. Makes me think maybe the meaning of the term "clean tone" depends on perspective. You might call my overdrive tone "clean". I use delay, occasionally reverb, or often nothing but a 10 foot Dimarzio cable with what I call "clean tone".

I built a germanium Rangemaster clone that, dialed back, gives a subtle, rounded flavor I quite like.

Some of my "distortion" pedals like DOD FX-50b and J Rockett 45 Cal can do a similar thing with the overdrive dialed way back. Just a nice, subtle boost.

Like to run those into some combo of tremolo, analog delay, and reverb.

Don't have a lot of experience with compressors, but picked up a few PCBs and about to fall down that rabbit hole to see what it offers.
