    Hi all!
I have what I think is a custom CIJ Tele, from 99-02, #P021211.
I really hope that someone could help me determine what base model it is, and point out the custom options that are chosen on this one.
Is the only "custom" choice the P90 neck pickup? Or can you see other things that wasn't stock on this model?

I tried... This is what I got: "Unfortunately for the most part information on Japanese instruments is limited to model year"

That's why I reached out to you guys :)

If the words, "Crafted in Japan" are printed somewhere on the headstock, it was made at the Fuji-gen factory in Japan around 1999 thru 2002.

If that cannot be found anywhere on the guitar, then the serial number indicates a year of production between 1993 and 1994.

There was a MIJ Aerodyne Telecaster made between 2005 and 2006 that was black, with the single coil in the bridge position and the P90 in the bridge, but it had a black headstock, and the pickup selector switch was up high on the upper bout, like a Les Paul.

I do see something called the Fender Japan FSR Hybrid 60s Telecaster P90 Electric Guitar, but I can't find it in Fjestad's Blue Book, and it appears to be a recent manufacture.

Scratching my head on this one.

    Thanks!
Yes, Its a "Crafted in Japan" Tele. Serial is printed on the back of the neck, close to the body.
I looked at the Aerodyne myself, but there too many things that don't fit.
The FSR Hybrid you are talking about, that one I haven't checked out.
But they do look the same! I can only find new builds of that model, though. I have had the guitar for 18-19 years, so mine is not a recent manufacture.

Unscrew the neck and check for any marks on the heel or body. Such as tl 62 etc. that might give you an idea of the model. The original use of the word custom as it relates to fender telecasters is to indicate a bound body.

I'll try that. Didn't know they sometimes placed model info hidden somewhere :)
So the white bindings on the body could be the reason for calling this exact guitar a custom model?

I’d have one of that spec in a heartbeat.. P90, black, rosewood and binding...

Brass saddles and a control plate flip would make it my tele perfection.

Yes, I love the looks of this one! For me, that is the perfect look!
I also got a Black LP with bindings and rosewood. Along with an Ibanez RG and a BCRICH Warlock, both black w/bindings and rosewood.
It is quite possible a pattern can be found here... ;)

Whenever I see a Tele with a P90 in the neck my first question is ALWAYS how did they wire it?

What pots, 3 or 4 way switch, capacitors, resistors, farads, ohms?

Other than the P90 your guitar resembles a 62 custom reissue, the binding on the body and the threaded saddles on the bridge along with the rosewood board. see this one
