That snake is auditioning to be your next guitar strap.
But really, those little guys eat the voles, moles, and mice that are bad for people and their pets. I've had to rescue a toad from a garter snake a couple of times - the toads eat the bugs in my garden, so I don't like to see them being dinner for a snake.

I would be much more freaked out by wolf spiders.

You probably would have a hard time finding a more harmless snake than a garter.

    GT-40, 427 hi-riser/Le-Mans?

As much as I know about the cars, the internals of that engine....
I dont think I have ever seen a shot that showed the airbox like that. If so I dont recall it.
But yes, I am familiar with the "bundle of snakes" headers. Part of the legendary sound.

Garter snakes are live-bearers, so don’t worry about eggs.

Here in New Zealand, we have no snakes. I am fascinated/freaked out by them.

I touched a tame one in Sydney once (a freaking BIG one) and was amazed at the feel. Prior to that, I was 99% freaked, after touching/patting it I was suddenly be more fascinated.

Only with non deadly ones I might add :)

I think as a child in a snake country I would likely have had a pet one at some stage.

It's a wonder you haven't imported some from your friendly neighbors to the West. They have some doozies that could change your nation's whole self-image.

    Where wolfies abound,
    black widows aren't found.
    - just something I noticed around the house...

I know it’s a harmless snake, but I don’t want snakes in my house. In the same way I don’t want opossums in my house.
