Okay. I’m recording with a MacBook Pro, using Presonus Studio One.
I sometimes just do sketch stuff on Garage Band. (because it’s faster)
Why won’t either DAW let me import from each other? Thanks.

They use different formats. There is no incentive for Apple to help you move from Garageband to presonus- they are encouraging you to upgrade to Logic. They won't program the ability to read presonus format. If they did, it would be in Logic.

In addition to monetary incentive, the formats maybe proprietary.

Presonus maybe has some incentive to import from other apps to get you to switch to theirs, but they haven't for whatever reason done that. See file format maybe proprietary.

    However:

You can export WAVs from 0:00:00 and import in the other (manual import for stems). That will not really do the midi stuff per:

    https://forums.presonus.com/viewtopic.php?t=7318

The other way is upgrade to Logic, and use AAF formats between the two:

    https://www.musicradar.com/how-to/7-things-you-might-have-missed-in-presonuss-studio-one-4

Logic is like Garageband on steroids.

Your last option is just use one or the other.

There maybe some other options- because I don't use Presonus stuff, but these are the options I've used with Garageband and other apps.

There are also file conversion programs. Izotope's RX supports AIFF, and can convert it to WAV. I'm sure you can find stand-alone file conversion programs as well.

As erratick said GB is a cut down version of Logic Pro. You can import GB projects into Logic through iCloud though. Same the world over - software vendors want you to buy into an ecosystem.

Manual import for stems always works- it may remove a little opportunity to tweak. But it works pretty well.
