I heard or saw this somewhere...

Who's the real villain in the Wizard of Oz?

Consider that Glinda, the "good" witch of the north:
1, stole the ruby slippers from the wicked witch of the east, and seems to relish that Dorothy's house landed on and killed her
2, used Dorothy to murder the wicked witch of the west (WW east's sister)
3, though she knew those shoes could take Dorothy back to Kansas.... didn't tell her that till the very end
4, by using Dorothy, she essentially eliminates all her competitors in the realm (wicked witch of east, wicked witch of the west, and the wizard of oz who leaves town immediately after meeting Dorothy and her murdering clan)
Spoiler alert, the WW of the W is actually the decent one and Glinda is a self-centered narcissist. The W of O tried to get the WW to read spells that would enslave the citizens of Oz and when she refused, the W of O tried to kill her. She's actually the victim of a a fascist conspiracy. Go figure.

I put a pair of (new, Amazon-purchased) ruby slippers in my office display cabinet at work, next to one of my Charlton Heston toupees.

I have no idea if this story is true. Garland was being harassed by the Munchkins, that I believe, and one of them told her he wanted to...let's say take her to see the wizard. 😏
Her response was, "I better not find out you did."

If I'm going to be completely honest, I thought this thread was going to be about Tommy Chong.

I grew up in the '50s and, correct me if I'm wrong, I was thinking The Wizard Of Oz was broadcast on TV yearly around Christmastime (for awhile)? OTOH, I might be wrong about that. It was a lonnnnggggg time ago.

I remember our 2nd grade home room teacher would read an exert from The Wizard Of Oz every day at the beginning of class.

I'm pulling from a suspect memory...

It was primarily broadcast in late-ish November in the 50s & 60s, occasionally into early December. During the late 60s(?) and 70s it was moved to late January, early February.
November and February are the 'big' ratings books, November the biggest because of the holiday shopping. The period of time that the ratings are compiled occasionally stretches into early December or starts in late January. The same holds true occasionally for late October or early March.
Into the 60s more and more classic TV holiday specials...Charlie Brown, Rankin Bass, the Grinch, etc. were produced so Oz was frequently moved around since it's not really a holiday movie and if it didn't directly compete with those specials it was guaranteed to to well, no matter how many times you'd seen already.

I posted the broadcast history in this very thread back in December.
