I think it's ridiculous how much people want for bodies.
"Hi this is reclaimed pine. The cost of this body is $400"

Man all I want is a strat style body. NO tremmy route. NO string through. ONE bridge route for a tele pup. ONE neck route for tele pup. The holes drilled to run the wires. Of course the neck route and small route big enough for a vol/tone/and on/on toggle.
The cheapest quote? $500. For pine. That guy is insane. I'm sorry but people in my opinion are WAY over charging for neck and bodies.

I'd get a kit but I don't want the tremmy or string through. The rest I could deal with since it'll have a pick guard.

Maybe I'm just too cheap. Or maybe I think people are greedy jerks who want to bend people over with their prices. Pine should not cost $500 especially when he's doing half the amount of work. Just not routing the tremmy saves time and work alone.

It's like all these body makers think they are master luthiers. Yeah I'm a bit angry. It's not like I want something out of this world. I only want a strat body with half the routes and drilling not being done.

Sloppy paint shop job but this is what I want. Not including the body..4 routes, 1 long hole from neck pup to bridge pup and one short hole to small cavity. I can even drill the output jack hole myself. $500? For pine? For $500 I'd go buy a Squier Strat or save some more and buy an MIM. This is the problem when you want something out of the norm or slightly different.

Anyway thanks for letting me vent. I live in a small town. We don't have a luthier plus with what's going on I haven't left the house since March.

It might be cheaper to buy a used guitar just for the body ?

You're planning to use a top-loader tele bridge on a strat?

I bought a factory 2nd from Guitar Fetish for $25.00 and it turned out pretty good. As good as any "reclaimed" piece of wood you can buy.
I relic'd it and did stuff to it. If I had to sell it, I'd ask for $400 bucks.

There's a lesson in there somewhere.

I second the notion of going to Guitar Fetish.

Not everyone has $500 lying around to drop on a body. Especially on disability. :)
I was thinking the same thing...LOL
We have 1 pawn shop where I live. Gonna check him out and see what he has.

Always go there. They are low on stuff right now. Everything I wanted is on their...put me on the wish list.
Problem is they don't have what I want in a body. I'd hate to compromise cause that always turns out bad for me. Don't get exactly what I want in a guitar and it winds up being sold.
I alwasy say..get what you really want not what you have to get.

Well that's great you have the money to do that. Not all of us do. Not everyone can drop $500 for a pine body especially if they plan on paying the rent or eating the next month.

I bought an XV-950 hollow from them for $200 less. One of the best guitars I have.
They just don't have what I'm looking for. I get everything I can fro GFS. all my pups, necks, tele bodies, wiring, pots, everything. Sadly this time they just don't have the Strat body I want. They have a purple one that is close but then I'd have to strip the purple off and spending $100 just to strip it seems a bit much. I don't like that color purple on it.

I just did a few minutes of research. I don't see any hardtail Strat bodies out there.
If you are comfortable with a little woodworking, you might consider a Tele body, and sculpture it to your liking.
    Good luck !!

Its just money, I'll make more...and so will you. Life is too short to not have the guitar you want/need/deserve.

Yeah actually I am except it's not just for a Tele. Gotoh makes a strat bridge, Schaller makes one Hipsdot makes one all for Starts. I don't like string through. Never have. Somewhere down the line I developed and intense dislike for them. :)

You can probably pick up enough tools to make them yourself for less than $500, if you shop around. Maybe hit the garage sales and keep an eye out for decent secondhand stuff.

As for wood, keep your eyes open. If you spot wood in a scrap pile at a friend’s place or something, ask if they’re going to use it. About 99% of the time, they’ll just laugh and tell you to take it, it’s just scrap.

Then you can make them yourself. Maybe even sell a few.
