Its easy for me to be a bit biased, as I am not generally interested in most sports at all. Occasionally the olympics allows a glimpse into the best of the best doing something interesting, but I usually feel like I could be doing something better with my time.

And in my observation, right now theres a lot of more important current events to distract from sports, as opposed to sports distracting from current events.

But thats just me.

OK can't resist.

Best of the best? You mean the best from rich families who can devote their entire lives to their kids' olympic training?

I think it's because of the lack of excitement without the crowds. I'm a huge hockey fan and it took a while to enjoy the games on TV without a crowd. When they announced they were going to play them that way I didn't think it would matter but after watching the first crowdless game I found it almost boring and tuned out for a while.

The crowds of CEOs and famous people who can either afford tickets or are gifted them by other CEOs and famous people?

Name any business and corporations have invaded them. They also have a hand the ridiculous and savage conspiracy theories that have done an excellent job of dumbing down America.

Same here @Torren61
I don't know what it is that has caused me to completely become disinterested this year.

Actual global conflicts including wars and genocide, mass poverty, climate crisis, and a pandemic that olympics do nothing absolutely nothing to reduce, despite all the money to promote "international goodwill"?

Or maybe it's just me.

The Canadian channel has versions. too
I was watching the fencing and badminton other day.
Like alternatives and also non-USA centric matches.

Lack of crowds kills most of the energy around sporting events. Even professional wrestling (which is a performance more than a contest) is flat without crowds. The company that threw its employees into a makeshift crowd is the only one that didn't seem flat.

Maybe they could have edited in an audience for the Olympics, like they did with the new Space Jam movie. Woulda added something at least......

What does it take for them to cancel it? I mean, if there was a volcano erupting right there, would they still have it? It just doesn't FEEL right this time.

Already delayed a year. At some point the bigwigs have to deal with their fears of sunk costs.

I always like the Olympics. The hard work, the families brought to tears after changing their lives for years to support a kid, etc etc.
But I will say, NBC has botched this coverage big time. It's nearly impossible to watch an entire game to conclusion. TV coverage ends before the competition ends. You watch it for an hour and never find out who won! It doesn't continue on immediately after that segment and switches to something else etc. Confusing as heck. I never did find the Japan US Softball game yesterday. Heard the result in a 30 second blurb at 11pm.
The schedules on TV segments are often wrong.
Basically they are making it as hard to watch as possible...
You nailed it! They ruined it for me decades ago… But on the plus side I think of all the time I didn’t waste in front of a television set. Life is good

NBC sure missed the boat on this one. Mediocre coverage, way too many commercials, lackluster to over gushy commentary, and just the feeling like this ones being phoned in have put me off this go round.
Maybe next time

I was waiting in the lobby for a Dr. appointment yesterday. The TV was on, and they were discussing Simone Biles withdrawing from the competition. When they said she had a rocky performance the day before was my first realization that the Olympics had started.

So, yeah, I'm not into it either.

Yes, me too!

It's particularly upsetting that there are no fans/crowd.

And, on top of that, there's all of those gymnasts and volleyball gals in those cute little outfits...

Really, hard to take.

I can't watch it more than 3-4 hour's an evening.
