In1968 I subscribed to one of the few gun magazines available at the time. Now there are at least 30gun mags or more with the same subjects as 1968. The same with guitar, motorcycle, hot rod,
girly, and any other kind of magazine.
The only difference is the age of the readers. It's the same with guitar players, the young ones are all over who's playing what and why, the middle age wondering if they should upgrade and the old ones trying to figure out what they're going to do with all their crap.

The good news is: My early days were driven by performing . . . I'll never perform with a live band again, but home studio recording is letting me recover old songs I have written and play instruments I never played live.

I do, primarily in relation to slide playing.

All the centers' butts they've been slid across over the years, I'll wager.

When I first stated playing and you called about an audition, they would ask about your guitar. If you said you played anything but a Fender or Gibson that was the end of the audition/phone call.
Back then a Strat was a Strat, a Les Paul was a Les Paul, as simple as that, there were no Player Plus or signature models or custom shop or relics or any of that nonsense.
There were also no electronic tuners, or locking tuners or locking nuts for that matter.
A much simpler time, as long as you had a Gibson or A Fender.

I don't have much of a problem with the same discussions repeating when it comes to guitars. I did, however, completely stop going to Scuba Forums when I saw "Should I buy fins that match my mask?" for the 100th time.

<Edit> I guess I would have a problem if people were asking "Who uses Pledge to wax their guitars?"

Well yeah, we all know now that tone is in the fingers. So why isn't anyone giving up any secrets about what kinds of fingers to get? Is this a collusion between Big Fretboard and Big String to keep us preoccupied? We'll spend our time arguing with each other so we can't organize, while they both go laughing all the way to the bank?

I've seen plenty of CL ads looking for band members that say "DO NOT show up with Peavey or Squier"
