I got my bridge in. Just waiting on the pickups. All lumber is together, just waiting for the last of the hardware and then it's go time (pickups will likely be in after Mar. 5).

FINAL parts? Geez, I'm working on the preliminary parts, the finals won't even get ordered until I try them out and decide I don't like what I was going to use!

I'm already second guessing my choice of pickups... must resist spending more money...

Somehow I just ran across your thread Dave and love the idea!

I haven't done a full detailed build thread in sometime so I may have to jump in for the fun. Seems like I should be able to find something in some this stack of crotch walnut and cherry, have a stack of rosewood and curly maple fretboards and curly maple neck blanks laying around as well.
My only hold back may be a weird one when Dave says he wants to see us play it when we are done. I don't actually play!
No really, not at all! I just build and set them up for others to play.

No one's going to take away your birthday or anything if you have someone else play it. ;-)

(FWIW I'd never know it wasn't you if you didn't say anything)

Ha, how true! Totally missed that reality. Though I really could use a couple birthday's taken away!

I actually have a similar issue, although I did play a little years ago. My problem now is that I had wrist surgery a few years ago on the left side and I can't bend my wrist enough to do much of anything. They actually removed a row of bones. (I had a bone-on-bone situation where cartilage wore away and it was getting increasingly painful) But I guess I can make some kind of noise despite that. Maybe open tuning or something to make it simpler. LOL

Photo is tiny, but yes, "there are ways". I think I can meet the expectation of showing my creation(s) can make seemingly pleasing noises... :) :D

Well, I’ve been looking at things, and thinking hard and constantly changing my mind over different projects/ideas. Then what do I do??

So I’m looking around our local trade site yesterday, then out of the blue - this pops up on me!

    5B9C0162-EC47-465F-81B0-9CD2305D45A0.jpeg

It’s genuine New Zealand swamp kauri. Very sought after and not easy to get your hands on! Well, not at a decent price anyway! Every time I’ve ever checked any out they’ve been totally over the top cost wise!

Anyway, this bad boy pops up, and it’s now a done deal and all for just a tad over 60 bucks local. Trust me - that’s a good price!

It’s not a huge piece of wood - 430mm x 135mm x 55mm - but cut down into three pieces I’ll get a nice Tele cap outa this! If I was really shrewd, I could possibly get two caps, or a front and a back, but I’ll leave that decision until I actually receive it. My first thoughts are possibly a carved top??

More decisions! But either way, this is now gonna be my feature piece for the Brotherhood build. It’s got some nice features to it, and if I can do a decent book match and align the outer strips well enough, this could be a real stand out guitar for my standards!

Now my thoughts turn to what body to put with it. I’m already thinking Merbau neck and fb, and I do have a Merbau slab I started fashioning up quite awhile back - very heavy bugger though, so lots of chambering required - and the Merbau neck idea could work quite well with a set neck style set up. Alternatively, I have some pretty plain looking mahogany which is/was slated for my future SG build, but could go well with this piece!

So it’s more decisions and procrastinating on my behalf, but hopefully it’ll become a little clearer when I actually receive this piece. Hopefully by the end of next week!

    Damn Dave
Are you really doing this brotherhood group build?
March 5 ya say?, extra month of build time too?
Haven't done a build in a while but now ya got me thinking.

Hummmm.......the grey stuff upstairs is feeling that old familiar pull.
