Always someone we perceive to better off than ourselves, always someone we perceive to be worse off.

I've never asked either how they perceive me.

I was a huge fan of Steve Bartkowski. Still am. I’ve been a Falcons fan since grade school. Never second guessed my loyalty. I love the team. I cheer every game.
You can’t be a pessimist and be a Falcons fan. Maybe you should root for them. Give it a try. Make your own happiness.
Thanks Big Bart! I enjoyed watching you play.

Don't be deterred by others apathy and complacency. It's horribly contagious. Stand with others of good will. Don't accept the unacceptable.

Using a terminally ill family member for inspiration, I'm going to keep caring. Good reading and proper discipline with news helps.

Something I am pondering is a mass de-friending with my social media stuff. I'm already more selective with face to face things I've been doing outside of work. Some do not have the discipline or capacity to be factual or do the factfull (Read Roslings). Thus, my planning to further rid the garbage I get when people will follow narratives to support what they would like to believe vs facts.

I was an eternal optimist until about 1990. That is when I realized that most people are just simple hedonists and could give a s*** about others. As an existentialist (which we all are even if you don’t know it), I finally accepted that we as a species are doomed to fail. So, that turned me into an authentic existential nihilist.

Events over the last few years has proven my perspective and has embolden my philosophy.

But I am a happy guitar playing nihilist.:D

Optimists spend their entire life in a state of nearly constant disappointment. Pessimists are occasionally pleasantly surprised. Pessimism is the far more realistic way to live.

What is the difference between an optimist, an optometrist, and an ophthalmologist? As a pessimistic optometrist, I was surprised how many people do not know.

It could just be confirmation bias though!

Have you read 'Thanatos Syndrome' by Walker Percy? I think you would find it hilarious and awesome.

I"m an optimist and that does not describe me at all. I'm very frequently pleased and surprised.

'realistic' is as arbitrary as any other emotional state

I’m neither optimistic nor pessimistic about the future or about others. There are few true altruists in the world. Most act in their own self interest and put whatever spin on their actions they think will help them get by. Collectively, we see through the ruse and are sometimes able to take action.

There are a few simple rules in life. Entropy always wins. The house wins in the end. Gravity pulls. The wind blows. Windbags blow harder.

There are good people out there and some of them continue to do good even when challenged. Revolutions succeed, but only in reshuffling the deck.

An I an optimist? A pessimist? Or only cynical?
