Well today I decided to take apart my long suffering "Mean green Fido" and use its neck for something else.

DSC02417.JPG I guess the picture says enough, this neck will be paired to this body. The neck was a Strat neck coming from a medallion Stagg which has the nicest feel but to improve it even more, I re-sculpted the heel of the back of the headstock, to ape the feel of those awesome Fender MIJ guitars.
DSC02419.JPG I also stripped it from its lacquer and re-did the entire thing in linseed oil, it feels fantastic.

Then I made a deal on some eighties non-branded humbuckers with their rings.

Because I always loved the way those eighties made guitars looked with cream colored humbuckers and in solid colors I decided to go that way.

Something among the lines of THIS...

    Or THIS.

So I have two cans of paint, both of them pretty common shades to be found on the guitars from that vintage.

And I can't decide between them, what do you guys think: red or blue?

Raise the grain but don’t sand it flat
Then do blue over red and sand back to some red

Blue on the front and back and red on the sides.

    Or the other way round.

White. I know it's not on your list, but it takes on a funky elegant look when it starts to wear in:

I'd say knotty pine, ponderosa pine, colonial pine.
But you got two colors there so I'm going with that pretty blue.

Those colors have a Nintendo Switch vibe.

O O O, paint the base coat blue, then a coat of white with a red final coat... Then buff through the red/white in high wear areas.

You know I was just reading an article today on Seymour Duncan’s TeleGibs he made for Jeff Beck and later himself. Definitely getting some of those vibes off of this. Also, if that blue comes out as a sort of surf/pelham/boy blue I reckon it’ll look great, especially with those pickups.

That's what I'm currently doing but mine doesn't look like off the shelf white pine, it's a couple hundred years old with some red and brown and weathering. That would really need some stain. I did my pedalboard Espresso polyshades.

Nice! My pinecaster is from my luthier's family farm. Comes from a wash house erected in 1816.

Wedding gift from the wife. Spared no expense. Callaham hardware all around.
Lollar 52T bridge and a low wind Imperial in the neck.

But if I had to choose between red and blue, I'd probably go with red.

Blue is one of my favorite colors. 90% of my wardrobe is that color, or complementary colors to that hue.

Blues is my favorite genre of music.

Having said that, I just don’t like blue guitars, especially lighter colors like Sonic or Daphne Blue.

For guitars, I LOVE reds and oranges (excepting day-glo)...

You can guess what vote I made.
