Seems like for me, if I want to start from pieces/parts, I end up needing 40 necks and 40 bodies and then I switch them around to enable each neck to "find" the body that brings out the most in it.

Think about the Dating Scene (if you can remember) and how the slender red haired girl with the green eyes turned out to be a lousy kisser (and her father is a psycho). You can't know until the assembled guitar is set up and you plug in, what you really have.

Specifications are very very important. But they get you to 3rd base, not to home - and you can score 12 runs and still lose the ball game.

The fattest tele neck Fender makes with a rosewood fretboard.
Locking Stratocaster®/Telecaster® Vintage Buttons Tuning Machine Set
Bone nut
Alder body with daphne blue lacquer finish
Nashville tele pickup layout (3 single coils) with Gold Fender Lace Sensor pickups
Eric Clapton mid boost circuit

I just want my 52 reissue but with slightly bigger frets a 9.5 radius and a tummy cut. I think I really want an elite but with a fat neck

2-piece alder with walnut veneer cap. V neck with rosewood board and pre-CBS headstock. Black 3-ply pickguard and black plastic pickup covers, knobs and trem tip. Vintage Fender trem…or maybe a hardtail. Vintage tuners. Fralin or Lollar pickups SSS. Gloss nitro finish but roughed-up/satin on back of next. Blender wiring.

An alternative would be Jimmy Thackery’s strat with I think a Floyd trem. That thing has tone for days.

Um, ok so here's my dream Tele that I'd want if I was paying Mod Shop money...

62 custom bridge and pup
swamp ash body with cutaway heel (not fussy about 2 or 3 piece or figure as painted)
maple/maple neck with spaghetti logo (no trees, 22 frets, 4 bolt, medium jumbo, modern c, 12" radius, rolled edges, roasted, bone nut, oiled finish to rear, no finish front)
staggered safety posts
electrosocket
chunky knurl dome top knobs
top hat switch
reverse plate
pull reverse phase for neck
250k pots with balancing 470k resistor for humbucker.
neck WR CuNiFe reissue in mythical mounting ring (parchment)
no guard
pine green nitro
nickel hardware

Had Fender ever done Wide Range CuNiFe’s in a strat body? That would be cool! No middle pickup, a Deluxe telecaster setup on a strat body might be my choice. If anyone has built one, I want to see please🤔

OOOPs! Oops, I just googled and there are tons of them! I just never payed attention until Fender started making proper CuNiFe’s again.

Your own preference for the body and neck, but mine would def have the Original '52 RI pups.. I am in love with them.

I,d say I got pretty close on this one. American Performer, satin sonic blue, slapped on a Fender American Profesional all rosewood neck. Usually run Glendale bridge and saddles, think think I left this one stock. Fender tuners, screwed up and drilled right through the headstock putting the string tree on. Rosewood sawdust and crazy glue to the rescue..

My AP-II is all but perfect. Maybe some locking tuners? Oh, wait, I can do that myself. Maybe an electrosocket? Oh, wait, I can do that myself. Did I mention my AP-II is all but perfect?

The perfect Tele is embodied in the Highway One Texas Telecaster. I'd prefer the Honey Blonde finish that was on the first one I purchased in 2007, but am happy with my current Sunburst. Some folks might argue for a more "vintage" set up pickups, but I like it stock.
